I woke up to the sound of my mother calling my name. I turned around and tried to block her out. I was tired; last night I was busy preparing my stuff for my first year of college so I slept late.
"Kitty, wake up! You're going to be late!" Mother yelled at me. Finally deciding to wake up, I wasn't in the mood to dress up so once I headed out of the shower, I put on a pair of comfortable jeans, a shirt, and a jacket. Heading out the house, I sat in the car. It was a beautiful day but it was a little cold so I'm glad I brought my jacket.
Once we arrived, I noticed it was brick red; just like all the other house and I had a proper look at the school. It was huge; it had two parts to it. I and Mum entered the building and went our separate ways. Mum was a year ahead of me and she was attending college. I was taken into a room with other students and the teachers there told us who they were and what to expect during the year.
They divided us into two groups and we got settled into college by talking to our new tutor.
After two other lessons, it was time for lunch. After lunch, I left for my other classes. I sat with Mum during lunch.
Walking into the last class of the day, I sat at the back and waited till everyone was here since I came a little too early. Students came and took their seat and suddenly, a guy with curly brown hair sat next to me and I turned red. I got up and the teacher looked at me and asked if I was okay. I just nodded and started to feel sick so I ran out of the classroom. After I was feeling better, I went back in. I didn't get into trouble since I told them I was sick and I sat far away from everyone. The guy from before gave me an 'are you okay' look and I just nodded.
After school, I had to walk home since Mum had left because something came up. I flopped down onto my bed and I thought about how much of a fool I made myself look like. Tears threatened my eyes and I cried myself to sleep.
After being at college for a couple of weeks, I settled in better than before. I knew where to go and where my classes would be. I still didn't like to talk to anyone, I was more into putting my head down and getting my work done.
People would come up to me during lunch and ask if I wanted to go and sit with them but I refused every time. Trying to get my work done as much as possible so I didn't have a whole load to do at home, I focused more on my artwork. I did more art than the requirement so if I liked it, I could add it to my art book and if they see I did more work, I would get a higher grade at the end.
A few weeks more into college, I went into class and started on my first project. I started to make friends with some of the girls and socialise but I wanted to stay focused on my work at the same time so I tried to balance friends and work.
"Kitty, do you want to go get some food?" My friend Kim asked while she was packing up her things.
"No, I'm fine thanks, I need to get my work done" she looked at me concerned.
"How much have you even eaten today Kitty? And don't think about lying to me, I know you long enough to know that you aren't eating properly" she said as I looked at her and then looked down at my feet.
"I haven't eaten n-nothing," I said holding my head in my hands as she packed my things away and made me go with her.
"Come with me Kitty," she told me softly.
We went to the cafe in college and she had to buy me food because I didn't have the money to buy it myself. I told her that I didn't need it and that I was OK but she refused to listen to me and wouldn't take no for an answer.
"Thank you," I said, smiling at her.
"It's OK just make sure you eat more and no cutting meals off" she scolded me lightly and smiled. I laughed and hugged her close to me as she hugged me back.
