You had just finished washing dishes and were drying your hands when you heard the front door open, signaling your boyfriend's arrival. You set the towel down and made your way to the living room, hoping to see him.
"Hoseok?"
The room was empty, but you did hear footsteps in the distance.
"Hoseok? Is that you?" You called out.
It's not like him to come home without greeting you.
You heard a thump followed by more footsteps. Following the noises, you shuffled down the hallway and into your shared bedroom where you found a crossbody bag that had been thrown on the floor, indicating Hoseok was home.
Slam!
The noise made you whirl around, sticking your head out into the hallway. Hoseok's studio door was shut.
Something must be wrong. He came home and went straight into his studio without so much as a "Hello." to you.

Your curiosity led you to the door of his studio, your hand hovering over the knob.
Maybe I shouldn't bother him.
You stood there for a few drawn-out moments, contemplating on what to do. Your boyfriend was clearly upset and your first instinct is to check up on him. Then again, this was the first time he had ignored you. Maybe he had a bad day and didn't feel like talking to anyone.
But, you don't want him to think you don't care about him if you don't check up on him.
Ugh.
Unable to make a decision, you turned around and started walking back to the kitchen. At the very least, maybe you could make him one of his favorite dishes. He loves kimchi fried rice. Plus, food is always a good mood-booster.

If you recalled correctly, there was some kimchi in the refrigerator and you could steam some rice in the rice cooker fairly quickly.
With a pep in your step, you went to the fridge and got out the kimchi before rinsing some rice to toss into the rice cooker.
While that softened up, you put the kimchi into a pan and started cooking it, the pickled cabbage sizzling in the hot pan. It wasn't long before the rice cooker had gone off, indicating that it was ready to be put into the pan with the kimchi. Adding a few scallions for some extra flavor, you mixed all the ingredients into one pan and fried it, allowing the flavors to mingle and mix.

Scraping the steaming rice into a bowl, you piled it neatly inside the curved vessel before grabbing a cold can of Sprite and pouring it up into a glass. The fizzy, carbonated bubbles bounced up out of the liquid. Sprite was Hoseok's favorite soft drink, there was no way you could leave it out when preparing his favorite meal.
The timing could not have been more perfect because as soon as you finished plating everything, you heard Hoseok's studio door open. The faint sound of shuffling feet could be heart, getting louder as he approached, eventually entering the kitchen where you stood waiting.

"Hobi." You greeted him enthusiastically. "I made you kimchi fried rice! I figured you were having a bad day so I thought you'd like your favorite meal."
"Thanks, but I'm not hungry." He said despondently, his tone lacking emotion.
"Oh. Well, that's okay. You can always heat it up later if you change your mind."
He didn't respond, he just walked into the living room without saying a word.
"Is there anything I can do?" You asked, trailing behind him.
He let out a sharp huff of annoyance.
"You can leave me alone."
You were taken aback by his harsh response, as it was out of the ordinary for him to be that way.
"What?"
"Leave me alone. I don't need you making meals for me and following me around."
"I'm... sorry. I just wanted to make you feel better." Your voice faltered.
"Well, you can't. You're only making it worse. I just want to be left alone."

You pressed your lips together in a weak attempt to stop yourself from crying. Despite the wetness building in your eyes, you spoke with as even of a tone as you could muster.
"I guess I'll just leave. Sorry for annoying you." Your voice cracked slightly, giving you away.
All you did was make him his favorite meal and  try to check up on him. And that makes you a nuisance?

Hoseok's chest ached hearing how disheartened you sounded, your response making him come to his senses. He watched as you kept your head down while walking towards the door.
"Y/n, wait. I'm sorry."
"No. It's fine." You mumbled and reached for the doorknob. "I won't bother you anymore."
Before you could twist the handle, Hoseok took hold of your wrist and spun you around to face him.
His brows were pulled together in concern, his expression twisted with regret.
"I'm sorry." He repeated. "I didn't mean that."
"Of course you did, Hoseok. I'm obviously getting in the way, so I'll give you your space."
"No." He denied. "If anything, you're not in my way enough. I need you right now."
"I didn't mean to make you cry, sunflower."
You nodded in understanding, blinking away the tears that had started building up moments ago.
"I just had a bad day. Practice was rough and the guys were getting on my nerves. I was teaching everyone a new routine and things weren't going well at all."
"Hoseok-"
"The way I reacted today was not like me at all. I've never been in such a foul mood before. And I shouldn't have spoken to you the way I did. Not after you worked so hard to cook for me. I should be happy to see you after a tough day. I should want to spend time with you, not push you away. You're my safe place and the one I go to when I need comfort."
"Hoseok." You spoke up before he could ramble any further. "You're forgiven."
He perked up.
"I am?"
You nodded. His apology moved you greatly and it really seemed he had come to his senses and realized where he messed up. And for that, you were willing to forgive him.
"I don't deserve you."

He cupped your face, pressing a long and tender kiss to your lips. It was the kind of kiss where his lips stayed firmly connected with yours for a few moments as if to convey just how sorry he was. He parted ways, your joined lips making a smack when separating.
"Truth be told, I'm starving. And that kimchi fried rice looked incredible." He confessed, still cradling your face between his warm palms. "Will you join me?"
You nodded, flashing a grin. "I'd love to."
