Sarah walked in the door, rifling through her mail. She had worked all day, and she was tired. She was looking forward to a quiet evening, at home, with Nick. She kicked off her shoes, pulled a bottle of wine from the fridge, and poured herself a glass, sitting at the table to open her letters. One contained a check from Nick's company for $7000. She looked at it, confused. She placed it in the middle of the table, to question him about it, when he arrived, and moved back into the kitchen to start preparing dinner.
Nick walked in soon after, not knocking. He placed a bag of groceries on the counter before moving to her, hugging her from behind and kissing her on the neck. She reached behind her, gently scratching the beard on his chin. "Hi, baby", she said.
He looked around at what she was doing. "Everything looks great, mami. What can I do?".
She pointed to the table. "Tell me what that is?".
He moved to the table picking up the check. "It's your fee for the video appearance".
"You paid me. It's your company. I don't need your money".
"Mami, I don't have anything to do with it. We pay everyone".
"I'm your girlfriend, not your employee. Take it back to whoever gave it to me. I did the video for you, not for money".
Nick didn't see the big deal in getting paid for work, but he wasn't going to argue it and ruin their evening. He had something important to ask her, and didn't want to sway her decision because she was pissed over the money. He put the check in his pocket. He'd deal with it later. "Done", he said, rejoining her in the kitchen. "Now, I'm yours to command. What can I do?".
She washed her hands, then cupped his face in them. "Thank you". She kissed him sweetly. "Did you get the peppers? You can start chopping them up!".
They prepared dinner, side by side, telling each other about their day. When the food was cooked, they both set the table and carried the food over, Sarah adding the bottle of wine last. They sat side by side, eating and chatting. It took he entire meal for Nick to work up the courage to ask his question.
"Come" he said, extending his hand. He led her to the living room couch, sitting down and pulling her on his lap. She immediately curled up, wrapping one arm around him, and resting her head on his shoulder. They cuddled this way often, her tiny body fitting perfectly on his. "Mami, I've been thinking".
"Uh-oh" she joked. He laughed, swatting her ass.
"We've been dating six, almost seven months. We spend every night together already. We love each other. Let's move in together".
She looked at him, surprised by the suggestion. She was comfortable in their relationship and hadn't thought of changing anything. "I don't know", she said, honestly, linking her fingers through his. "I wouldn't want to lose what we have now. It's perfect. I've never been happier. Do you think being in each other's space 24/7 could ruin that? It might".
He considered her words carefully. "You're right. It might. But, it could make everything a thousand times better. We wouldn't know unless we tried". When she didn't respond he continued. "All I know is that I hate waking up without you beside me, and every time we're not together, I wish we were. We're good together. So, we should be together. For real".
She smiled at him, stroking his face lovingly. "And, I'm guessing you want me to move in with you, not the other way around?".
He scoffed. "Mami, my house is made for a family. This one isn't. It makes sense to move into mine".
She thought about it, trying to come up with a happy medium. "How about this? I keep my house not made for a family, but I take some things over to yours? Steal some closet space, have my things all over your bathroom, shit in your toilet, then we can see if living together is for us".
