April 8th, 1985 - "The Nelson Wedding" (Miami, Florida)

Patrice

Prince finally ended the tour right here as expected. To keep up with traditions, the happy couple didn't even see each other last night.

These two even reserved completely different hotels. I chuckled despite the requirements.

Now, I stood near this beachfront mirror with Brenda and my designated employee for her wedding dress.  I'd whisper occasionally, noticing the bride while walking around, just to be sure.

Lucille Hughes, Brenda's mother, sat right behind us, wiping tears with a handkerchief. Jasmine, Brenda's only sister, bashfully smiled alongside.

"Are you ready?" I questioned Brenda, smiling. I glanced over my shoulder and noticed her sister Jasmine rolled her eyes.

"Of course." Brenda laughed with a glow I'd never seen before. She looked so happy. Genuinely content with life.

"He's Prince. If they divorce, I'm taking off my earrings." Jasmine snipped behind us.

"Quiet, Jazz." Brenda and Lucille hushed that teenager seconds later. Ocean waves crashed right outside the windows. Salted air wafted straight towards my nostrils.

My voice snickered with the female wardrobe employee this time.

I never received siblings, but these family exchanges
deemed absolutely hilarious.

"So, Mrs. Hughes, I must ask, what was Brenda like growing up?" In that moment, I couldn't help digging for more information.

Despite my typical professional  collaborations, I only knew Brenda through Prince in a way.

This will be interesting. I thought to myself.

"She was always singing to gain vocals  and jumping around the house while learning to dance. I almost threw the Talking Book album out because her father would constantly blast it while cooking. Brenda could sing Superstition right now and never mess up." Mrs. Hughes offered me this grin and the entire room burst into laughter. Brenda simply shook her head.

It was time.

Two attendants proudly opened these long and wooden doors for bridesmaids and Brenda Michelle to eventually  access the beach.

Of course, I couldn't help smiling with every passing moment. Every day packed with many tears led to this. No matter what.

Once again, salty air wafted towards my nostris. Now, I sat with both wardrobe employees for this project.

Rows of white chairs arranged on thes cooling sand. Other guests chatted in the chairs all around of us.

Prince already stood underneath this flowered arch. Its colors accentuated with purple and white petals.

Morris, Andre Cymone, Jerome, Brenda's father Ray and even Prince's father John Nelson clustered with the handsome groom.

My eyes  immediately noticed when Prince waved to all of us, still waiting.
