Betrothed To Him

Chapter Eleven:

"You good brother?" Antony says the second I answer the phone.

I wasn't.

"I'm good man," I tell him anyway.

"What about the girl?" He asks and I turn to look at Lana and silence falls through the air around me. I couldn't get myself to speak after looking at her drained face.

"Ian, are you there?"

"Ye-Yeah, yeah. She's here and safe with me."

"Good, good. Listen man, I organised a safe place at the Hamilton Island and it's ready for you. It's very discreet and well secured I double checked the area and all the details. Everything's as planned."

"Thanks, man, I appreciate it"

"Don't mention it, anything for a brother. I gotta go now, see you soon."

"Ok," I say and close the line resting my head back on the seat.

The atmosphere of the day was gradually changing from the events hours ago as we flew over the lush green tropical jungle in an azure blue cloudless sky.

Sitting where I was, I allowed myself to enjoy the cool breeze. It was a beautiful day. Even the air smelled sweeter.

Looking down from the helicopter, the jungle gave the impression of being a beautiful thick green carpet undulating over and around the mountains. Up high in the sky, the air was clear and fresh and less humid.

I was relaxed because I finally felt at ease. I wasn't done with Vitaly yet, but Lana was and this was the perfect place for her to hopefully forget what she went through.

I look down at her, she was sleeping so peacefully on my arm. I tried to smile, but my face felt frozen, I couldn't even smile because of all I had caused her. She didn't deserve any of what had happened. All of it was my fault and knowing that killed me.

Even with the two beaming rays of sunlight shining across her face, her red hair still stringy and damp, and her face pale and drawn from shock. She was lovely. Full lips, a straight nose, high cheekbones - it was the sort of face that aged well. But it was her eyes that held all her emotions. Deep and dark, they held intelligence, pain, and even now, a flash of innocence.

My sweet and innocent thoughts quickly morph into reminiscing about our last rather steamy lovemaking session. I shook my head as if trying to shake off the memory. A memory from the far past that I didn't want to visit especially at this moment. A lot has changed in the past few years, we both grew into very different people so I needed to focus on keeping Lana as far away as I possibly can from my world, or else I'll just end up destroying her.

I gently slid my arm around her, pulling her even closer, her face against my chest. We've been flying for almost an hour now, and there wasn't much time left till we reach our destination.

"Sir, everything's clear"

"Good." I dismiss the bodyguard, then I walk back to the helicopter and reach out to Lana lending her a hand. I preferred to take her myself. I don't trust anyone anymore.

"Let's go," I said. She swung her free hand down towards mine. I grabbed it and gently pulled her down to the ground.

"You . . . all right?" I ask, looking at her pale face, her eyes swelled with redness. I need to get her a doctor as soon as possible I note to myself.
