Hey again! Just gonna go ahead and do a Shiro shot.
My lack of artistic creativity lately has somehow transferred into my writing fuel. So, enjoy this.... Probably messy oneshot. At this point and time, I'm overly bored and haven't planned things out, but I'll do my best to explain via story.

Also, I tried to exclude any specific gender identity within this, as I don't want to offend anyone who may be nonbinary/genderfluid/transgender/etc.
I have a bit to learn about the whole community, but I'm open minded, and it seems like a really good cause.

Anyone pointing out any typos, grammar mistakes, or errors within the story would be greatly appreciated! I'm trying to improve my already terrible writing skills.

Okay, enough of me rambling.

Enjoy!

Y/N sat in the hangar with the lions, helping a certain nerdy scientist with their work on repairing the Green Lion.
You had no work to be doing, and it bored you. You were a very active person, maybe not sports-wise, but artistically, and academically? Definitely.
So, you offered to help Pidge get their work done, and you were thoroughly enjoying the nerdy talk, and Pidge educating you on new scientific terms. Although you didn't completely understand what she was going on about, you were trying your best.
"So... Is there anything else I can-"

"Yes! Yes, can you hand me that flathead screwdriver? Oh! And the socket wrench." Pidge asked, entirely too consumed with their work to spare you a glance.

No matter, you were a handy mechanic. "One screwdriver and a socket wrench, comin' right up!" You said, rather dramatically. But it earned a snicker from Pidge, so your efforts weren't in vain.
Another chuckle emitted from about four feet behind you, and you recognized the voice as none other than the Black Paladin.

A grin spread across your face, turning around to face the tall man. "Ah! It seems we have another customer." You announced jokingly. "What can I do ya for, partner?" You asked jokingly, in what you thought to be the best western accent you had heard. It got you a hearty chuckle from Shiro.

"Sorry to interrupt your work, but Allura needs me to nab your accomplice for a long talk." Shiro said, as if Y/N were an esteemed criminal. "Accomplice? I think of it as a-" You had stood up, but hadn't accounted for the lose screw under your foot, and fell forward with a yelp, bracing for impact.

The impact never came. Within a few seconds, Shiro had lunged forward and caught you within his arms, his human arm bracing your collarbone, and his robotic hand steadily placed on your back.
With the help of Shiro, you righted yourself, and made sure there were no more screws on the ground, with a rather 'I dare you' expression upon your face. It amused Shiro, a small smile ghosting over his face.

"You okay there, partner?" He asked, earning a snicker from you. It seemed he hadn't mastered the fine art of goofy accents, which made it so much better. "Well, I'll have you know, I've fallen large heights than this. Ya see youngin', one time in my younger years-" You were cut off by Shiro, quite comedic timing.

"Okay, as much as I'd like to hear your tales, old timer, me and you have a date with a rather angry warden." He chuckled, amused by your silly antics. He loved it when you joked around, and smiled, and laughed. He loved your personality, he loved... Nevermind.

"A date? Already? Gee, Shiro, I dunno. A famous space lord guy, and a rough 'n tumble cowgirl with a bad his- OH! Shiro you're a genius!" You exclaimed. Remember when I said artistically talented? I believe writing is an art of sorts.

".... What?" Shiro was confused, as he wasn't familiar with Y/N's writing habits. He had wrapped an arm around your shoulders, and began guiding you towards the lounge. He knew you were going to get too caught up in rambling to remember walking, so he took it upon himself to help. He didn't mind, of course. In fact, he enjoyed listening to you talk. Your voice was particularly soothing to him, for some odd reason. However, he was focused intently one what you were saying at the time being, interested in the story they had to tell. No time to think about why your voice seemed to calm him.

"So, here's what I'm thinking. The story of a lonely space dude, and a dark and mysterioud country gal with a bad past. Well, they both have bad pasts, but in different ways I guess. It'll give them common ground, I guess." You said, gesturing with your hands wildly in excitement. "Anyways, he crash lands on Earth after a fight with.... uh...... Some aliens I need to name, and coincidentally ends up on her family's land." You paused, catching her breath after running through that all in one breath.

Shiro was enamored, to say the least. How could one be so creative? And so.... Attractiv- NOPE NOT GOING THERE.
Okay, so the man may have been having a mental breakdown about his feelings for Y/N, but he was doing well at hiding it.

Back to his previous thoughts. Shiro had a sneaking suspicion 'Space lord guy' was somehow based off of him. Subtle little details, white and black hair, a 'behemoth', as Y/N put it. In other words, he was tall.
He only knew because sometimes Y/N would describe him as those things, mostly because you were in shock someone could be so tall. It almost made him chuckle. Just another thing he liked about you.

{Time skip brought to you by my perpetual state of laziness, and my desire to not make this fanfic overwhelmingly long.}

You nodded apprehensively in Allura's direction. Apparently, they had found traces of Galra activity on a planet they had already rescued. Were they Galra attempting to claim it back? You had no clue. That's why you were being sent there. To find out why.
"Uh.... If I may be allowed to ask, why am I going? Not that I'm complaining of course, but I'm not a paladin. Wouldn't one of them be better suited to help Shiro?" You inquired, quite confused.

Allura simply smiled, and dismissed it. Although, there was a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Worry not, Y/N. It's just that the other paladins are quite busy. Besides, you've been in countless battles before, you're just as good of a choice as any of the other paladins." She said, a warm and motherly tone in her voice. You and Allura had a few heart-to-hearts in the past, she knew much of your insecurities.

"... Alright." You hesitantly answered. There was an undertone of thanking toward the Altean princess, and you hoped she caught on to it. "Well, I better go get suited up, I guess." You said with a small smile, turning to leave.

Shiro nodded. "Meet me in the hanger when you're done. We'll take off then." A nod was seen from you, and Shiro sighed.

After you had left, Allura rounded on Shiro. "If you don't speak with that girl about your feelings, so help me I'll-"

"Okay, okay! Calm down, 'Lura. I'll get to it..... I just need to think about how." Shiro chuckled, scratching his neck nervously.

Allura sighed, he was almost as insecure about his feelings as you were. He was the only one you would openly joke with, aside from Pidge, and he could touch you without you flinching away. She'd come to understand that it wasn't a result of abuse, as she previously theorised, you just didn't like people touching you. "You better...." She almost, almost let it slip that you liked him, it was so hard not to! But, she held her tongue as Shiro walked out.

Allura sighed. "Humans..... Such strange creatures...." She mumbled, turning back and heading towards the bridge. She had things to do.
