Long way from vegas

After I met Abby, I run back over to the temporary stable area and see Santana already tacked up and ready to ride.

"I love you, Ryder!" I yell to him, because he had tacked her up for me and had gotten my number.

"You better, you would forget your head if it was not attached to you. I will get Rubix ready so you don't have to rush around," he tells me as I hop up on Santana and ride over to watch what my competition is today.

The fastest run so far was 17.5 seconds and that is Abby.

"Next up is Alex, riding Santana's blue moon!" The announcer says, and we are off.

We turn a little wide on the first barrel. So I kick her to go faster and we cut around the second barrel perfectly. As we are heading to the last barrel, we cut it too closely and my knee knocks against it, I barley catch it in time, then we race to the alley to finish our run. "That is now the time to beat with a 17.3 seconds!" The announcer calls to the people watching. I walk Santana over to Ryder.

"You know what you did wrong, right, on the first and last barrels?" He asks me when I get over to him. His arms are crossed and he's holding Rubix's reins.

"Yeah, the first one was too wide because I messed her up on her timing. The last one I got in her way of doing her job and she cut it too close," I explain to him.

I climb off of Santana and hand her reins to Ryder. He begrudgingly hands me Rubix's reins.

"You know you can pull out and not race him and I wont care," he tells me as I ride off to watch the rest of the event till my turn again. I just shake my head at him and keep Rubix walking toward the fence.

"The next rider is Alex, again riding Jasmine's Rubix Cube." We take off, her fighting me all the way down the alley with her rearing and bucking. She skitters out sideways and knocks over the first barrel and runs way too wide around the second barrel and just completely forgot to run around the third and just runs back into the alley.

Ryder runs over to me with a "I told you so look" on his face.

"You shouldn't have raced her today! You did not actually ride her, you let her do what she wanted!"

"I had to see what she would do without someone who would guide her. I was letting her do what she thought was right to see how much I needed to retrain her on," I tell him in a matter-of-fact tone, so he would know I did what I did on purpose not, because she was going to hurt me.

"She is a hell of a long way from the Vegas level horse she used to be," he scolds me, and I had to agree with him on that.

"So what event are you going to do with Sargon," I ask Ryder.

"Well, I am going to rope on Ash, and Sargon is best as a bulldogging horse," he explains to me as we walk to get Sargon and Ash.

I let Ryder grab his witchy mare and i grab my sweet boy Sargon and go to tack him up. I grab his saddle and bridle and put it on him. When I finish, Ryder comes out with Ash.

"Which event is first?" I ask as i look up at him.

"Bulldogging," he answers me as he hands Ash's paracord reins that he made to me.

I walk over to the fence to watch as the announcer says, "Up next is Ryder, riding Sargon of Akkad, who is for sale." I watch as Ryder takes off after the bull on Sargon, and he gets Ryder lined up perfectly and Ryder leaps on the bull and laid him on the ground. "That was a time of 6.2 for Ryder, he was the last person with the best time, so he wins!"

I handed him Ash's paracord reins and he handed me Sargon's. I watch as he roped and won the event. I'm holding Sargon's paracord watching Ryder, when this tall cocky looking cowboy santers up to me.

"Where's your boyfriend, buckle bunny?" he says with so much disrespect, I should have slapped him right then and there.

"Are you looking to buy this horse? I ask him sweetly.

  "Yes," he tells me.

"Well, then, I think you are looking for the both of us," I explain to him

"Why would I be looking for you?" He asks me, making me drop my sweet attitude.

"Because we both trained that horse," I explain.

"No way, a girl can't train a horse like that," he scoffs.

"Well, then, I guess you don't want this horse, because I did train him. And we won't sell him to you if don't believe I can train just as well as any guy or better." I reply as I walk away with Sargon, leaving a dumbfounded guy in our wake.

I found Ryder at the temporary stables and we loaded up the horses and left to do the evening chores.
