Up top Jekyll
"Hey, Ryder, you give the horses there water on the left side of the barn, Jace, you can do the same for the right side of the barn while I refill hay," I bossed the boys as I began filling hay nets on both sides of the barn. "When your finished doing that, check the feed board!" I shouted as quietly as possible so that they could still hear, but so that I also wouldn't spook the horses. The feed board is where all the feed and supplements each horse gets are posted right over the feed and labeled feed bins. We all met up at the feed board.
"I will get Santana, Whiskey, Blues and Lulu," Jace listed.
"I got Miney, River and Ace," Ryder told me. I was left to feed Knight, Ace, Lucy, Rubix, and Camelot.
Camelot had the simplest feed out of all the horses because we had just got him and had no feeding schedule. We fed him 2 scoops of alfalfa feed and half a scoop of 12% feed.
I fed Miney 2 scoops of 12% with a scoop of alfalfa feed and half a scoop of oats. River got the same thing as Miney, but with a joint supplement with 20 drops of lemongrass essential oils to help with joint pain. Ace had 2 scoops of alfalfa and a scoop of oats. Knight got a scoop of alfalfa and 2 scoops of 12% and a scoop of oats and a half a scoop of sunflower seeds to keeps his coat shiny. I add a couple of drops of cedarwood essential oils to help his coat. I hung each of their feeds on the door in there stall. I went to join Ryder and Jace on the front porch.
"What y'all ladies gossiping about?"I questioned as I hip checked my brother so I could have more space to stand in.
"Well, I was wondering how much rodeoing you will be doing this summer?" Jace wondered looking at me.
"As many as you will take me to seeing I still can't drive," I answered.
"How would you feel about picking up two yearlings at a horse sale tonight that we can buy pretty cheap and sell for a profit?" Jace questioned hopefully.
I exclaimed," I would love to train two more horses.
"Well," Jace said, "lets go"
"I call shotgun!" I screamed as I took off racing towards Jace's truck. I felt my ankle turn to the inside and my body hit the ground. Within seconds, Jace and Ryder were asking me if i was ok. "My ankle is twisted, if not broken," I told them calmly with a grimace of pain on my face.
Jace picked me up and put me in the front seat of his pick up. Well, looks like those yearlings are going to have to wait a few days to be picked out.
"No, send Ryder, I trust him to pick the best horses. He knows what we look for in a yearling that way we can pick from the best not the leftovers," I stated as Ryder was getting in the truck.
"She is right dude," Jace said, "you should go pick out the two best yearlings you will get a cut off both horses."
Ryder left as we flew away to the hospital.
Jace and I walked into the hospital and it was crazy. I took a seat next to a older man. While Jace was filling out my paperwork, I looked at the older man and smiled.
"Hello, young lady," he announced.
"Hello, sir, what's your name?" I asked politely.
"Well, my name is Harry Thompson," he told me.
"Hi, Mr. Thompson," I said.
"What did you do to land yourself here," he asked noisily.
"Well, me and my brother and his friend were going to pick up a couple young horses when I took off running and turned my ankle," I stated sheepishly.
"Want to know some business advice I learned when I was in that business," he questioned. I nodded my head so he would continue talking. "Treat every horse like you would treat your own and train them like you would if it was your kid riding it," he said wisely. I took his advice to heart. We kept chatting about anything from horses to the wonders of the world until I got called back into a room. After taking x rays the doctors decided I had just sprained it.
"When can I ride again and rodeo? I also have horses to train this summer." I asked and stated all in one breath.
"You can go back to normal work in a week, but from the looks of you, I would be happy with two days," the doctor stated with a distasteful look on her face.
Me and Jace walked out and got in the truck and rode home in complete comfortable silence.
We pulled into the ranch and I hopped out of the truck and hobbled to the barn as fast as possible with Jace laughing at me. I walked up the stall that were empty mere hours before. I saw two brindle colored horses with extremely unique patterns.
I looked at a note taped on the stalk door stating that they are a year and a half old and twins, never trained, not much human contact, and there names are Jekyll and Hyde. I leave the note taped on the stall door for Jace.
Huh, I thought to myself, seems like Ryder has already gone home. I guess he can't stay here forever, I spoke to myself in my head. I went and took a couple of pain pills for my ankle and collapsed in my bed from pure exhaustion.
Above Hyde
