It was early in the morning the day after the trial, or so guessed Blue Zircon (BZ from now on). Since she had regenerated a few hours earlier, she could only paced nervously along her office, bitting her nails and occassionaly shifting her monocle in multiple ways that never seemed to please her. She had done something terrible, something so daring and unforgivable that she thought she could just expect a shattering to come out of all this: her own shattering.
She'd been like this for about four hours but BZ didn't seem to notice the time pass in the midst of a whirlwind of fear, frustration and self anger. She didn't seem to notice either when the lock of her office door beeped unlocking and two quartz soldiers came in, they were so big that the Zircon barely made it to their shoulders.
"Blue Zircon, you have been summoned by our lustrous Blue Diamond to come before her. Come with us"- said one of the huge warriors.
"Y-yes"- responded BZ with abandon.
There it is, she thought with resignation as she walked down the blueish hallways that lead to Blue Diamond's room , they're gonna shatter me. All because my mouth is bigger than my head. I should have shut up, I should have restrained myself and just lead a moderate defense of the case. They were going to shatter Rose Quartz anyway, why did I even care?! She hadn't finished scolding herself when they arrived at destination, the gigantic door slid silently into the wall slots and revealed a lavishing wide room decorated in shades that ranged from the lightest to the darkest blue. In the middle, sitting in a throne that matched her patrician air, was Blue Diamond wrapped in her unmistakable cloak.
"Bring her closer"- spoke the beautiful matriarch with a voice so graceful and yet so comanding that BZ felt herself trembling, she was idle, she couldn't bring herself to stop shaking nor think about anything to say on her behalf. The quartz guards must have noticed her shivering figure because they softly grasped her elbows and placed her right in front of the intimidating gem.
BZ tried to speak, she tried to remind her Diamond what a compliant servant she had been, to convince her that she could be still useful. But all of this came out as an inaudible mumbling that the Zircon tried to articulate as she made a shaky salute with her arms and hands crossed in diamond shape. She was approaching to a nervous breakdown, but the blue matriarch paid no heed to uncontrollable shaking form before her and spoke:
"You know why you've been summoned here today, don't you?"
"Y-y-yes, my Diamond!"- answered the lawyer finally releasing from the knot that had been subduing her throat but kept on trembling.
"It is true -cotinued BD- that your statements in the trial are ones that deserve shattering undoubtedly" By now, BZ could feel her gem breaking apart in distress she was about to kneel begging for mercy when BD resumed. "However, I've found a better use for your gem. I can't stop thinking... What you said then, is it really possible? That Rose Quartz didn't shatter Pink Diamond, that... that it might have been someone else, that the Diamond Authority has something to do with it"
Blue Zircon looked at the Diamond completely puzzled, she was waiting the matriarch to summon a few pointed shards of ice that could terminate with her life, or maybe a lightning that would crack her gem instantly. But instead she was being asked wether she tought that her own theory was right, the same theory that made her accuse and even shout at the Diamonds, the very same theory that made YD so outraged as to lift a finger to poof a simple Zircon. She couldn't get a hold of her train of thought and her Diamond was growing impatient.
"Ah, umh, well, If... If we gather the evidence and put it together, m-my Diamond, you'll see that umh... well, there are some things that seem off. But please believe me, my Diamond, I never meant any offense against the Diamond Authority I've always served loyally to..." Blue Diamond lifted a comanding hand and Zircon became inmediately quiet.
"In consideration of the thousands of years of service you've provided me, I've decided to give you a second chance to enmend your errors. You'll develop further this theory of yours. If you can prove with solid evidence that Rose Quartz didn't shatter Pink, I'll spare your gem. You'll come here once a week to show me your progress, if I'm satisfied with your work I'll grant you all the resources you need to get through your investigation. Have I been clear?".
"O-of course, my Diamond!"- was the only thing she could manage to say astonished as she was.
"Now leave, and don't make me regret my decision. Because you'll surely regret it more" With this the Diamond dismissed a completely puzzled Zircon. She walked slowly down the hallway back to her office, relieved by the fact that she had avoided shattering temporarily but now her gem depended on her ability to succeed in greater feat, one almost unthinkable for any common gem. Proving her point was saving her own life, such was her thought as she walked past a group of gems discussing loudly.
"YOU!" - said a voice higher and angrier than the others- "Out of all the gems I could come across it had to be you!" BZ cotinued buried in her predicaments until a hand grabbed her neckerchief and swiftly spun her around.
"Yellow!"
