Vulnicura is Björk's eighth international studio album, and it describes her feelings before and after her breakup with artist Matthew Barney. And, yes, this is the same Matthew Barney she wrote the romantic and sexual Vespertine about.

The name of the title is a made up word, coming from the Latin words Vuln (meaning Wound) and Cura (meaning cure). It's kind of obvious that writing Vulnicura was Björk's way of expressing her feelings over her nasty breakup with Matthew Barney. More traditional than Biophilia, Vulnicura is about "what may come to a person at the end of a relationship," and "the dialogues we may have in our heads and in our hearts, the healing processes."

The sound of the album almost reminds me of that of Homogenic. It features a lot of ambient string arrangements over electronic beats, as Björk said in an interview that the only way she could deal with the breakup was to start writing for strings.
