Chapter 5
A couple days had passed since our little… intimate session there. Which stopped dead in its tracks after that night. Riley pretty much completely ignored me. I sat in his room, staring out the window on the floor… like a dog waiting for his master to return. I felt useless. Lost almost. I didn’t like the feeling of needing to depend on him. I was fine by myself until he came along. He never watched me sleep anymore and I literally haven’t seen him in about 4 days. I didn’t leave his room, I didn’t feel safe enough to wonder.
“Annabelle? It’s Ralph.” I heard a knock on the door. I didn’t turn my head from the window. Nothing interested me.
“Yes Ralph. I heard you walking up the stairs. I knew it was you.” I muttered.
“Haha, I forgot how good wolves hearing is.” He laughed to himself. “Why are you staring out the window? You haven’t moved in 4 days dear.” He came and stood beside my body.
“He hasn’t come back in 4 days. I have no reason to move.” I sighed and leaned against his leg. I could feel the frosty skin through his jeans. It was relaxing somehow.
“Riley’s been very busy lately, I assure you that. He’s asked me to tell you that we will be leaving in an hour.” His voice was solid. I looked up at him now. His pale blonde hair had no shine. No life in it. His red eyes were deep, but not piercing. His body was massively buff. Though he was the only one who didn’t scare me at first. He had a gentler approach.
“Where are we going?” I stuttered. Looking at him with sad eyes.
“School. Delcaster Academy. It’s a boarding school for vampires. We received permission for you to join today.” Ralph crouched and held my hand.
“I have to go to school filled with vampires?!” I yelled, shuffling away from him. “Are you insane?! I can’t do that. No way. I refuse. I slammed my head into the floor and shook my head.
“Annabelle, I’m in charge of watching you. Nothing will happen to you. Everyone will know that you are Riley’s possession.” Ralph put his hand on my back.
“I’m not a possession… I’m a person you know…” I mumbled into the floor, not wanting to go.
“I promise nothing will happen to you. I’d take a stake in the back for you.” Ralph whispered. This shocked me. His voice was soft, heartfelt. I felt his heart actually beat. His hand was warmer… Or maybe it was my skin heating his hand. I lifted my head and hugged him around his neck tightly.
“I trust you.” I mumbled into his shirt. His skin wasn’t that cold now. His muscles ripped as he lifted me off the ground and placed me on my feet.
“Good.” He smiled. He had a great smile, perfect teeth and everything. He was probably the nicest vampire I’ve met yet. “Now let’s go to the car. I believe Riley arranged for your school uniform to be in our dorm. He requested you keep the collar for safety.” He grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the door.
“I don’t actually mind the collar…” I mumbled. It was rather nice, and didn’t bother me at all really. I just wish if I was to be treated like I pet, that I at least had an owner.
