The sight of Dream Walker cloaked in darkness was like something out of an Outlast video game.
He was absolutely terrifying and extremely hard to defend against. His movements were spastic and unpredictable, leaving me on the edge of being able to protect myself. I was so overwhelmed that I couldn't even counterattack. It was painfully obvious that what I said to him made something within Dream Walker snap, but if I knew this would be the outcome, I would have been a little nicer about it.
Not that he deserved my kindness, I found myself thinking, receiving a gash on my cheek as he swung at my face.
I looked on at his distorted figure in disgust, seeing the tentacle-like tendrils of darkness ripping their way out of his back. His black hair looked like it was floating, and his canines were inhumanly sharp and looked ready to bite into something. His red hues dripped black tar, staining his pale cheeks and leaving him a ghostly dark grey. If I wasn't already used to shit fucking up like that, I probably would have been paralyzed with fear.
"Are you happy with yourself now, Osoroshi?!" He shrieked demonically, slashing another darkened hand at my windpipe. "Is this what you wanted?!"
I took in a sharp inhale as he grabbed me by the collar of my shirt. I latched onto his wrist as he dragged me along behind him and felt my head spin when he threw me across the opening and right through the fountain in the center.
Upon descending to the cement again, my fall was cushioned by who I could only presume was Satsujin — who was the only other person in my ice dome with us.
"Hey!" He hissed, kicking me off onto my knees.
I grunted when my hands slapped against the concrete. "What the hell are you still doing here?"
"I don't exactly have a way out, dumbass!" He bit back, a nervous edge to his voice. "You make a giant ice prison and then piss off the big man? Do you want us to die?"
I was unable to give a reply as I grabbed hold a fistful of his shirt, yanking him hastily behind me to avoid a landing-strike from Dream Walker.
The ground shook underneath us as we stumbled to the right, and Satsujin had to tear himself away to get out of my vice-grip.
"I didn't ask for your help, hero!" He spat, looking every-which-way to find me against the darkness.
"I don't particularly give a flying fuck what you want," I hissed back, pulling him out of Dream Walker's way again. "We have to get out of here."
"Oh, so glad to see that you've found the error to your ways." he mocked, receiving a sharp punch to the groin.
"Let's just go," I growled, yanking him forward. "I'll make an opening in the ice so you can get away, I'll distract Dream Walker while you escape."
"Why're you even helping me?" Satsujin questioned suspiciously.
"I don't want people dying because of him," I said quickly, defending us with a wall of ice as I defrosted the previously manufactured ice wall. "Even if you're on his side. He'll kill anyone in his way."
Satsujin didn't say anything to that, and instead of arguing, went to work in using his acid to hurry the process of melting the ice.
Snippets of moonlight began to flood into the darkness, and with it came the sudden halt of Dream Walker. I felt my shoulders tense at the sudden pause in action, and Satsujin hesitated in making his root of escape. I listened closely, and within a few seconds, a eardrum bursting shriek cracked the surrounding ice.
I covered my ears and pivoted on my heel just as Satsujin's human-sized hole was finished. He palmed my back and shoved me outward, following me hurriedly behind as he and I sprinted down the alleyway.
