"It's time to wake up, Yuki Osoroshi."

My eyes flew open, and upon doing so I was surrounded by a world of black. I felt my heart pulsing in my ears when I looked down to see that I was literally suspended in the air, but I wasn't falling and I wasn't ascending.

A repetitive phrase bounced off the blackness in a voice I wished I never heard. He sounded irritated, almost, which didn't help my shot nerves or how fast my mind was racing.

I knew what was going on, but somehow I couldn't compute it.

"Ah," I heard him say dreamily. He was behind me, but I couldn't move. "Long time no see, my dear snow flower."

I clenched my fists and squeezed my eyes shut. Willing him away hopelessly as I pulled my knees up to my chest. There was nothing I could do here, I already knew that. Without his quirk, I was powerless in his 'in-between,' which was cold and dark and unwelcoming.

"Turn to me," he commanded, and just his words prompted my body to shift involuntarily on its own. "Open your eyes."

I did so with no will of my own. Seeing him made my blood run cold and palms sweat. His hair had darkened to black and he wore a twentieth century French suit adorned with an ankle-long trench coat. He too looked to be floating, but his hands were slid neatly in his pockets with just his feet hanging loosely underneath him. I, on the other hand, had managed to scrunch myself up into a pathetic looking ball. I must've looked even more ridiculous with the obvious fright etched across me face.

"Why do you look so distasted?" He asked, sounding genuinely confused. His calmness made my ears ache. "Are you not as glad to see me as I am you?"

"No." I replied bluntly, finding my voice. It was much louder and prominent then I had anticipated.

I shook out my limbs and straightened myself out, hoping that that would be enough to convince him that I wasn't scared of him — that I never was scared of him. Though, his eyes bored into me with a certain level of doubt.

"That's too bad," he finally said, closing his eyes and smiling. "I'm quite disappointed that you didn't tell me of your return. I much rather would have liked to meet up in person."

"Don't be cute," I hissed, scowling. "This isn't a game."

"Ah, but it is," he disagreed, looking at me again as he appeared no more than two feet away from me. I felt my spine tingle uncomfortably at the proximity. "It's been a game all along."

"What do you want? Don't you think this has gone on long enough?" I questioned bitterly, arching forward slightly to get my point across.

"Not nearly, dear," he sighed, suddenly looking sad. "Not nearly..."

"Then tell me what you want." I demanded, a desperate crack ringing in my voice.

"Alas, it's something I cannot have," he replied solemnly, taking my chin between his thumb and forefinger. "Something I know you won't be able to give me."

"Then why bother?" I pressed even further and his eyebrows scrunched together as he stared down at me.

I didn't know why, but it made my heart race in my chest.

I wasn't scared, I kept telling myself.

"Osoroshi," he uttered my name and I felt myself shutter. "Why must you be like this? So... difficult?"

"You can't expect me to let you ruin my life without fighting back," I bit hatefully, swiping his hand away from me. "You've already taken my parents away from me, I won't let you destroy anything or anyone else."
