My arms were aching from the overload of bags. Betty had forced me in every designer shop, most of the labels I had never heard before. I finally freed up my arms as I sat in a plastic chair across from the Taco Bell stand watching Betty get guacamole on my jumper.'Before you say it I know it's not permanent you being back here, but I really have missed you. I wish things could be like they were.' She spoke still not noticing her filling was dripping out.
'Me too.' I bit down a laugh.
'I mean when's the wedding?' She asked catching me off guard I almost coughed my Pepsi back up.
'There's no wedding Betty.' She raised an eyebrow at my reply.
'If you say so, what about the sex.. is it good?' This time she was lucky I wasn't taking a sip of my soda. I blinked open mouth not knowing what to say.
'You... have done it haven't you?' She asked loud enough to turn heads.
'I've been waiting for the right moment, I've only ever been with Sam you know.' I hissed back.
'So what you went on holiday with this hot guy for three weeks and you're telling me you've not done anything because you've got next to no experience?'
It was dig after dig, I wanted to scream back 'just because I'm not a slut' but I knew I'd be stepping out of line especially when the real reason was because of the curse so I bit my tongue and swirled my straw around waiting for her to diffuse.
'No I'm not having this, you're coming with me.' She got up stretching her long skinny legs picking up her now empty tray and tossing it in the nearest bin.
I swallowed in fear knowing any idea of hers was a bad idea.I rounded up all my bags and followed her as she excitedly skipped across the floor.
We approached Victoria Secrets.
'Come on don't be shy, we need to throw away those baggy pants at the bottom of your draw anyway.''How do you know about th-' It was too late she was already head first in the laciest - barely cover any skin set. She grabbed a basket and tossed in set after set, they all just looked like strings with bows on to me.
Then she stopped in awe at the mannequin.'This is the one.' She pointed.
It was black lace, a bralette that dipped in lace and thongs to match hugged with a suspender belt. It screamed for people with great sex lives, not Luna Amherst.I shook my head and sighed as she walked over to pay for everything.
No way was I going to wear that, I could physically see Phoenix's eyes combust at the sight of me.On the car journey home I nervously sat in silence. There was so many things I wanted to tell Betty.. about finding my mum, what she's like.. the truth about me and Phoenix.. the sword I can pull out of thin air.. how her and Talithea would get on so well.
I was in a different universe to her now, yet before I always felt a belonging even if I weren't as successful as her.
'I've texted Toby, I'm going to his tonight to give you space so you can be alone but that doesn't mean you can peep at your presents.' She thumped me keeping one hand on the wheel.
I wanted to tell her to stay so nothing awkward will happen, I was nervous about everything especially how I'd look like in all this lingerie.
I didn't have the curves anymore, I could tell i was thinning out and without some sort of shape it made me all the more conscious.
Why are you panicking love? His voice shook me out of my own thoughts.
I'm not
I'm not stupid I can feel it
