Next week came fast, and before she knew it, she had only 2 days until her grandparents would be visiting. She looked at herself in the mirror after a shower. Her appearance was dull and boring. So consumed and concerned with depression. She felt up for a change.

That day, she arrived home a whole 3 hours late. Her father had been worried sick. When she walked through the door, he was stunned. She had gotten a tan, giving her pale and plainful skin tone a vibrant and energetic complexion. She had also gotten her hair professionally dyed at a hair salon. It was an auburn-orange/ginger color, and it glowed and looked healthier and a lot more exciting.

"Honey...wha--what have you done?!", he asked firmly.

"I needed a change. I won't have my youth forever.", she answered back, snapping.

"You watch your mouth. I'm slightly upset that you went and wasted good money on all of this--this...appearance bullshit. But I'm even more pissed off that you didn't ask me.", he complained.

"Why would I ask you if I could do ANYTHING to ME? It's not you, is it?", she argued back.

She walked upstairs and slammed her door. She unpacked other materials she had bought: a hair straightener, hair curler, hairspray, headbands, hair ties, and makeup supplies.

She had never done makeup seriously. All that she did with her mother when she was a toddler was for fun. She looked for help on the internet. YouTube videos from famous makeup artists such as Michelle Phan helped her greatly. The woman at Sephora also helped her a lot. She took a shower, braided her hair down, kissed a picture of her mother, and got into bed.

She was even more excited than she was previously. She truly felt better about herself. Her mother would probably always be gone, but she could at least be happy to take a break and get away from the devastation. She was no longer worried, she would never let herself feel emotionally distraught again.
