"We are the kids your parents warned you about."

I couldn't stop my mind from thinking about Tyler. The taste of his sweet lips. His arms around me. The way he made me feel like all of my problems could cease to exist.
Luckily my father had left early for work, so it was just my mom and Annette at the breakfast table. Carmen swooped over, placing plates of Eggs Benedict down in front of us.
"Oh no ham for me this morning, Carmen. I'm not feeling too well." Annette pushed the plate away from her.
Carmen grabbed Annette's dish, taking it back to the kitchen.
"Would you like some Tylenol, darling," our mother offered.
"No, that's ok," she responded, nibbling on some fruit, "it should pass, it usually does."
I couldn't contain my excitement any longer. "I went out with a guy last night," I blurted.
"Oooo sweetie, that's wonderful. Tell me all the details," Mother exclaimed.
I blushed to myself. "His name is Tyler."
"And..." Her voice rose with question.
"We went to the observatory. It was different, but a good different."
Her eyes gleamed. "Did you kiss?"
"Maybe..."
"Oh, that's so sweet. It makes me remember all the boys when I was your age."
"There were more before dad?" Annette asked.
"Yes, there were. But when I met your father, I knew that I could forget about all of them."
Annette chuckled. "You were so young. How could you know?"
Mother gave a slight laugh back. "I know, I know, but something inside just tells you it is. Do you feel that, Violet?"
I hesitated. My thoughts were too scrambled to be coherent. Mother didn't really need to know about it anyways because I wasn't going to take any chances with her telling Father.
"It was just one date. I don't really want to make any final decisions on my feelings like that," I said.
"You're smart," Mother chimed, drinking some of her Orange juice.
"Just be careful." Annette added in, "You always seem to attract the most interesting of people."
What was that supposed to mean?

Mrs. Jones's eyes concentrated intently on my unusual bearing of high tides.
She narrowed her eyes, "Did you meet someone, Violet?"
I glanced away and blushed.
"This is new. Please do tell me," she urged me to continue.
I bit my lip in hesitation. "Okay."
She relaxed her posture and readjusted her pen on her clipboard.
