"Mom come on we're going to be late" I yell up the stairs checking my outfit in the reflection of my phone screen. "You're the one who signed us up for this you could at least be on time!"
My mom is that type of person who is late to everything. Which is the complete opposite of me. And of course this time wouldn't be any different even though we had to be there 20 minuets early to help set up. My mom signed me up to be a waitress for this dinner thing my dance studio was putting on, and since she was the photographer and thought it would be weird if she was at the one place I spend most of my time without me. She signed me up then practically begged me to give up my first weekend of freedom in months. So I agreed not because my mom asked but because it meant I would see my friends and get free food.
"I'm coming, I'm coming." She says as she runs out the door. Hoping in the car and blaring the radio.
The car rides as just like every other consisting of us singing as loud as we can to the radio then laughing at each other. So we pull into the parking lot and I touch up my mascara that started to smear when I was laughing so hard I was tearing up, and we went in. I first said hi to everyone I knew. Then went to find my mom so I could get my list of things to get done before it was time to open.
As I was finally getting to the end of my list walked into studio A where everything was being held and start fixing my napkins, then I spot him. This guy I had never seen before. Sitting behind the stereo equipment. Setting stuff up for the night.
Hmm, who is that? He's pretty cute. Oh right he's the new guy starting lifting class soon. They must have asked him to run sound for the show. Dang I didn't realize he was going to be this good looking.
And then it was like he could hear what I was thinking and he looked up directly into my eyes and smiled. It was unlike any simple I have ever received. It was one of those smiles that just warms you from the inside out. I didn't think much of it at the time but little did I know that smile was going to end up changing my life.
Quickly looking away before I made things awkward like usual I continued fixing the napkins. Then right as I was about to put the last one down one of my close friends snuck up behind me giving me a heart attack. Which ended with me falling to the floor bringing the napkin and entire place setting down with me.
"Nichole, what the heck!" I shouted trying to get my heart beat back to normal.
"I'm sorry R I didn't realize you were so zoned out that you would practically pee your pants." She giggled trying to control her laughing.
"You should know better than anyone that I get jumpy when I'm zoned out." I laughed reaching my hand up for her to help me up.
Me and Nichole have had many ups and downs but she was the only person from my dance studio that actually lived near me and didn't have to drive half an hour to hang out with. Also we were future cousins her mom is engaged to my dads cousin and we both take care of family first. Making us really close.
After I managed to compose myself I finished what I was doing hugged Nichole and started walking out of the room. But, not before I heard quite giggles coming from the other side of the room and for some weird reason I didn't quite understand yet I just new it was the mystery new guy.
