ROSE (17 yrs old)

Rose's POV

Walking into the empty, white classroom that didn't have another living being except me in it, I took a seat in back of the room. I never liked sitting with or near people. I always kept to myself until the school day was over.

Senior year, 12th grade, the last year of grade school.
It was the first day of school and I braced myself for another long, painful year.

-

Sitting in the room alone, I took out a book to read while I waited for everyone to get here.

"The Notebook."

It was my favorite book of all time and I'm sure that I've read it at least 12 times.

Lifting my head periodically from the pages, I looked up to see other students filling in the room. The more people came, the louder it got.

Eventually 20 minutes had gone by and next thing you know the classroom was filled entirely with students.

Overwhelmed by the noise, I closed to book and examined the people that I'd have to see for the next couple of months.

In front of the class sat the students who were quiet, shy , and known to always get their work done. In the middle sat the somewhat loud and gossipy people. They were the ones always talking about drama in the school or what they did over the summer. In the third row sat the popular girls and school athletes. They all stayed in a group together and usually made fun or bothered the kids in the front row. All of them were stuck up and rude and thought they were better than everyone.

I sat alone because I was shy myself, but I never fit into any of those categories.

-

"Good morning everyone." Said the female teacher who was in her early 40's that wore a black knee length skirt with a white shirt and black heels.

"GOOD MORNING EVERYONE." She said raising her voice to get their attention.

"SETTLE DOWN EVERYONE, PLEASE BE QUIET." She said once more.

Everyone got quiet and directed their attention on her.

"Thank you. Good morning everyone, my name is Ms.Oliver and I will be your homeroom teacher from now and until you graduate." She stated with a smile.

"I'm sure you all are happy that this is senior year and that it is your last year.
My class is fairly simple, just do as your told, turn in your work on time and algebra won't be hard for you to fail.
Now, since most you all have been here since freshman year, I don't have to explain to you the school rules. You guys are young adults and I expect you all to carry yourselfs like so. With that being said I'm going to call out attendance." Ms.Oliver said taking a seat at her desk and picking up a clipboard.

"Sasha Alberts?"     "Here!"
"Rodney Alpo?"       "Here."
"DonTae Blakey?"   "Here."

-

She called 15 other students before making it to my name.

"Rosa Quinones?"

I didn't even realize that my name had been called due to the fact that I was spaced out.
Everyone in the room was looking at me as my name kept being called.

"One last time, is Rosa Quinones here??" She asked searching around the room.

I cleared my throat, "Uh here." I said raising my hand.

The classroom was silent and everyone stared when I said that. It was the first day and I had already fucked up.

"Did you not know your own name?" Ms. Oliver asked raising an eyebrow.

"Sorry.." I said embarrassed. My cheeks felt fire hot and I'm sure they looked red asf.

The class laughed slightly and I heard they were talking about me.

I mean..all I did was day dream.

"Anthony Thorn? Is there an Anthony Thorn?" She asked searching the room with her eyes.

"Here bitch." He said with his legs crossed up on the desk holding a paper ball in his hands chewing gum.

Anthony was a basketball player for the school. He was popular as fuck and there wasn't a girl I didn't know that didn't like him. Everyone liked Anthony. He was tall, muscular, lightskin with curly brown hair and he had a sexy, sharp jaw line. All the girls drooled over him, including me.

"Excuse me??" Ms. Oliver said with an attitude.

"You're excused." He replied nonchalantly.

His male friends around him laughed and the girls giggled as he back talked to teacher.

"You can get out of my classroom." She said angrily.

He chuckled, "Nah, I'm straight."

His friends pushed his shoulder and laughed and "bro"ed him.

Anthony was fine as hell and I always imagined us together. But i faced reality knowing that wasn't going to happen because I was a shy girl and I knew he didn't go for that. Hell, he's never even noticed me before.
