Not too long ago there were two people, far different than anyone had ever know, who met each other. In those differences, they didn't find strife but happiness and love. Their names were Damian and Lilian.

Lilian was a normal girl, compassionate, kind, strong in character, and unlike her parents, she was open-minded. Her thinking far outgrew that of her generation or community. How could she have such a mindset if her parents were such horrid people? It was actually her aunt who taught her to try and see the best in people.

You see, when her mother and aunt were children, Lilian's mother cared more for status and accomplishment than seeking excellence and happiness. Lilian was more drawn to her aunt, and through this connection, she read stories, gained knowledge about the world and life. She loved hearing about them before her aunt passed away. Even after her aunt passed away, Lilian remained the same person.

As fate would have it, as she was on the usual route to her favorite spot to read, she would encounter something strange. It was a place deep in the forest, near a creek which is surrounded by stones that shine in the sun's rays.

As she walked deeper into the forest she noticed a bright light, it was coming from the place where she usually reads. She got closer to see the light coming from a wolf, it's fur dark and blue eyes that seemed surprising warm. It noticed her getting closer, as it started to growl, it drew itself back.

"It's okay, I'm not gonna hurt you." She said.

The creature relaxed a little as she drew closer and extended her hand towards it. Her hair was a light brown that glowed in the sun, her eyes a warm amber that seemed to tell it that it's safe. She lowered herself to its' height and sat down in the grass waiting for it to come to her. The creature slowly approached her, extended its' paw into her hand, and sat down. With its' guard lowered, the wolf transformed into a something that seemed like a man.

"AAAHHH! Wha-what are you?!" She screamed as she retreated back.

It looked like a man, not a normal man but close enough. He had straight black hair like the night with fluffy midnight black ears, blue eyes and a cold face. He grew closer to the girl, who had retracted back in response to his transformation, and stretched his hand out to her. For some reason, he didn't seem to be intimidated by her, and as she looked at him her expression softened. Hesitantly, she took his hand and felt something, it was the same feeling she had with her aunt.

As she was in her thoughts, he was leaning forward toward her. When she saw, she leaned back in response to the point where she fell. To her surprise, he just started sniffing her. Even though that was weird, it wasn't so strange seeing as he just turned from being a wolf to a human. Afterward, they both sat under the shade of her favorite tree.

"To start off, where did you come from?" She said.

The male turned his gaze from her to the ground, his ears drooped and his eyes were filled with anger but also a disappointment.

"Do you speak English or do I have to use hand gestures?" She asked

He smiled at her as if to gesture that he understood what she was saying.

"I can speak your language. As for where I came from, you wouldn't know..." He explained.

"Well, judging by your appearance I can tell you're not a local." She replied.

"Haha, I'm not a local, I'm from...what you might call...the netherworld." He spoke.

She looked as if he was joking, but then again it would explain how he was able to transform. Wondering why he came here, she began to unconsciously stare at him. He wondered what it was that was so interesting about him or was it something else?

"Is there something on my face?" He asked her.

"Huh? Oh, no! I was just...thinking. Why are you, um, here exactly?" She asked nervously.

"I needed some time alone, to myself...away from all the distractions," Se said with a slight tone of anger.

She thought that this was his way to politely say "get lost". And as she started to move away, he looked at her with eyes pleading for her to stay.

"Wh-where are you going? Please, when I said I wanted to be alone, I didn't mean...What I mean to say is that I wanted to get away from the people in my world." He protested.

"What happened exactly...?" She questioned.

He sighed, looking at her innocent face. It was a face that had never seen the annoyance or horrors of his world.

"It's my people, since I am the leader of my clan, they want me to marry. Not just anyone, but the daughter of the fox demons. I hate her! She's always going on about how 'we are so meant to be' or 'can't you see we're made for each other?'." He said.

"So, she's in love with you, but you don't feel the same way? Can't you just say you want to marry someone else or that you don't like her?" She asked.

"It's not that simple. The wolf clan is the most powerful, and since the crows are almost at our level, the elders think that marrying is the best option. Joining our clans together is a way to create a more powerful clan that would rule dominantly without question." He protested.

She looked at him empathetically, seeing him being forced to obey every command given to him. Not being able to make a choice or ask for something he wants. She knew it all too well.

After her father passed away, her mother became more closed off than she already was. Not only did she make a big deal about failing marks, but when shown excellent marks she didn't seem to care. As if, anything she did was never enough. After years of loneliness, her mother left. She sends money for food and pays the bills, but it's almost like living with a ghost. An empty shell of a house, one that could have had wonderful, happy memories, turned to dust.

"You're giving up your own happiness for the sake of others, but for what? It's not like you'll enjoy being with her, you'd only hurt yourself and her in the process." She explained.

"I-I should probably go but thank you." He said.

As he was leaving, he turned to see the young girl still there, smiling, waving at him.

"Are you going to be here tomorrow!?" He shouted.

She laughed at his silly gesture and nodded, this brought an unknowing smile upon the man's face. It seemed as if, a place that was filled with the dark shadow of guilt, blame, and hate was replaced by something much lighter. For once she couldn't wait for tomorrow to come.
