Pauline's POV
I'm peeking sa door ng class room ni Maddie to check if she's already here, early kasi yung first class niya and they said na hindi raw siya nag breakfast, I know kasi yung schedule niya and wala siyang break mamayang lunch pa kaya I decided to bring her food.
I'm not really sure pa if she'll accept it, weeks had passed since Bea and I talked sa rooftop. It'll be my first attempt to talk to Maddie again, I have high hopes na we can fix whatever problems we have.
Ang odd naman kasi their class' about to start na pero ang konti lang ng students sa loob, I'm shy pa to ask kasi I don't recognize anyone.
I was busy peeking sa loob when someone came from behind, I gasped and my scream got muffled sa kamay ng taong yumakap saakin mula sa likod.
"Shh, it's me." She whispered and I shivered, my body instantly recognized her touch. I calmed down when I inhaled her familiar scent.
"W-why?" Is the only word I managed to say, my heart is hammering inside my chest.
"Keep walking, may tagos ka. White pa naman yung shorts mo, I'm not bringing anything to cover it up. This is the only way I know, lead me sa car mo."
I only nodded in response, my face feels so hot for two reasons; first, Maddie is too close saakin, second, nahihiya ako sa nakita niya.
Tinitignan kami ng ibang students na nadadaanan namin, probably because they are confused kung bakit ganto kami maglakad ni Maddie. She's behind me and her hands are wrapped on my body, then there's me, who's still trying to wrap her head around what's happening.
I can't believe she's this close to me, kung makaiwas kasi si Maddie saakin parang ang baho ko eh.
Finally, after what felt like forever, nakarating din kami sa kotse ko.
I don't know if I should feel happy or sad about Maddie letting go from our hug. I missed being this close to her, the last time I got to hug her was when I woke up sa clinic afrer I passed out.
I handed her the keys when she asked for it.
"Pero diba you have a class pa?" I shyly asked.
"Wala yung prof namin, my blockmate asked me lang to help her get something sa room tapos I saw you. Reminds me, be careful sa susunod ha buti ako lang nakakita sayo." She explained and scolded before opening the car door to let me in.
I rolled my eyes knowing hindi niya ako makikita. As if naman, for sure isa yun sa mga may crush kay Maddie.
Hindi ko alam paano simulan yung conversation namin, isa pa nahihiya talaga ako sa nangyari.
So instead of saying something, I silently watched her nalang while she's driving.
Her brows are furrowed as she tap her fingers sa steering wheel, she's humming softly, I love the whole scenario.
Soon enough we reached Eliazo, wala naman masyadong tao kaya bumaba na ako kaagad at tumakbo papasok sa dorm. Inabutan ko si Jules who's watching TV.
"Heeey you and Maddie are trending sa twitter." Tumatawang sabi niya.
"May tagos ako, manahimik ka diyan." I left a laughing Jules behind and went to the bathroom.
After ko mag change ng underwear and shorts, si Maddie nalang ang inabutan ko sa baba. She's already eating yung sandwich na ginawa ko for her.
I stayed quiet and stared at her. Maybe she felt na someone's watching her kaya bigla siyang humarap saakin. Like a deer caught in the headlights.
"I ate your sandwich hehe, sorry ah, I'm really hungry na eh."
It took every ounce of resistance from me to stop myself from jumping kay Maddie and pinch her cheeks. Sobrang cute niya, her eyes disappeared when she smiled at namumula pa siya.
"It's okay, for you talaga yan. They told me kasi na hindi ka kumain here kanina."
"Ahh thank you." Alanganin ang ngiting binigay niya saakin.
Hindi na ako sumagot and sat next to her, resting my aching back sa sofa.
My eyes widened when I saw my twitter notifications blowing up. Hindi ko kasi masyadong pinansin yung sinabi ni Jules kanina, I mean palagi naman maingay twitter ko pero iba kasi yung today.
I clicked the hashtag to see all the tweets, pictures namin ni Maddie kanina sa hallway at parking. Iba ibang stories ang naiisip nila, I can't help but laugh sa ibang tweets.
"Hindi pa rin pala sila nauubos." Nagulat ako nang magsalit sa Maddie na nakasilip sa phone ko.
"Ang alin?" Nagtatakang tanong ko.
"Yung mga shippers natin." Nonchalant na sagot niya.
I was taken aback, so alam din niya. Could it be the reason why she kept her distance?
"So you are aware na they exist?"
Nagbikit balikat lang siya, nililigpit na niya yung pinagkainan niya.
"Thanks for the food, I'll go na baka malate ako sa next class ko. Take care."
She didn't wait for me to answer at umalis na siya.
Ano ba talagang dahilan ng pag iwas mo Maddie? Maari nga ba na dahil sa sinasabi ng iba saatin?
I badly wanted to ask her again but I know wala akong makukuhang sagot. Alam ko na kahit anong pilit ko ay hindi pa rin sasagutin ni Maddie ang lahat ng tanong na meron ako. Masakit at mahirap man pero yun ang totoo.
But knowing her, she doesn't care sa kung anong sinasabi ng iba as long as she knows wala siyang nasasaktang iba.
If only I could turn back time, I would. I badly need you, Maddie, I'll do all that it takes to bring you back to me.
I wiped the tears that I didn't know na tumulo mula sa mata ko. Gusto ko lang ng sagot sa lahat ng tanong na meron ako. Mga dahil sa mga bakit na meron ako.
Until when do I have to keep pretending that I'm alright? I'm not even sure kung hanggang kailan ko kayang itago yung sakit. Natatakot ako na hindi na magiging sapat ang mga ngiti ko upang takpan ang pait na nararamdaman ko.
