Shawn's path to self destruction knows no bounds. He lays awake that Monday night, staring at the ceiling as his mind races. A mind like Shawn's, wired how it is, will latch onto things, and never let go. Some latch on to T.V. shows, some latch onto sports, some latch on to nature, but Shawn, he latched on to his tales. Tales he needs to tell.
Shawn is obsessive with his goals. He knows this, but to learn he has to find balance, that there comes a point where working harder yields no greater returns and one must learn to rest. This is something he, despite being ill, still hasn't learned.
Lucy is awake at the hospital, her parents had come to visit her and make sure she's OK earlier, but not they have returned home as visiting hours have ended. Lucy takes out her phone, bored, and decides to text her other new friend.
Lucy: Hey Shawn.
Lucy: How you holding up?
Shawn: I'm OK.
Shawn: You?
Lucy: I'm in the hospital.
Shawn: What?
Shawn: What happened Lucy? Are you OK?
Lucy: I'm fine.
Lucy: Just...
Lucy: I have to be stronger, faster, no matter what it takes.
Shawn: I hear that. I ended up getting sick cause I was apparently working to hard on my books. It's bullshit.
Lucy: You? You work way to hard dude! You got the flu cause of this shit!
Shawn: Oh you're one to talk Lu.
Lucy: You do realize only Ally calls me Lu right?
Shawn: Oh I thought it was just a general nickname.
Shawn: This is awkward.
Shawn: Sorry.
Lucy: It's fine.
Lucy: But Shawn, you do work to hard.
Shawn: Well yeah so do you.
Lucy: So?
Shawn: Lucy are we friends?
Lucy: Obviously.
Shawn: And we both, according to others, overwork ourselves.
Lucy: Where are you going with this?
Shawn: We can keep the other in check. You get me? If the other is working to hard we call them out.
Lucy: I'll pass.
Shawn: But why?
Lucy: You're gonna get in the way if I do that, but I'm not gonna let you destroy yourself I can promise you that dude.
Shawn: Well just know I'm here for you OK?
Lucy: Thanks.
Shawn: It's what friends do.
Lucy: Why do you work so hard anyways?
Shawn: To hide the fact I was born wrong. You?
Lucy: What does that mean?
Shawn: I was born a certain way which I'll be like forever. The only thing I can do is hide it and hope, pray, nobody learns the truth.
Lucy: Which is...
Shawn: I've said to much.
Shawn: I'm gonna get some shut eye OK?
Lucy: Alright, goodnight Shawn.
