The gust of wind greeted me the second I opened the rooftop door. Well, if it's freezing cold out here, it could mean that the ghost is here. Suddenly, the thought of the stranger popped in my head. My body shivered at the cold breeze and the thought of him. Maybe...he was a ghost?
I looked around and saw the empty space.
This is probably not such a good idea, I thought. It's too recent to just go out here.
I turned around and pulled on the door but it wouldn't open. My heart raced and my eyes widened. "This is not..." I pulled as hard as I could, "...possible." I muttered under my breath and slouched at the realization that I'm stuck on the rooftop.
Without hesitation, I groaned in exasperation then turned around, observing the place once more. I closed my eyes then opened them, convincing myself that I know the rooftop more than anyone. I have been here for so long, and I have never seen a ghost pop up.
Suddenly, that thought made me smile.
Calmly, I walked around the rooftop and rubbed my hands on my arms trying to warm myself. This is not so bad after all. I needed this.
I sat at the edge of the roof and looked afar. Then, a voice inside my head urged me to look down. It was as if the urge was pulling my eyes downward. So I did and looked over the same alley where I saw the ghost. It was empty. As if nothing occurred down there.
Then, I felt safe. It felt normal again. And as if my feelings controlled the weather, the cold breeze turned into warm steam from the wind. I allowed my cardigan to slide down my elbows just to allow some air to blow against me to feel cooler. Seconds later, I sighed in relief as I felt comfortable in the weather.
I closed my eyes and held my chin up at the sky. It's been a while. This feels amazing, I thought.
Then, I heard a clanking metal, making me snap my head to its direction.
---
Carefully, I pulled myself up to peek at the rooftop. Sure enough, Miss Eave was there. I watched her closely as she observed the place. Is she looking for someone?
Or does she know? Ah, shit.
I kept my cool and watched her turn around and leave but failed when she locked herself out. Great. She locked herself out. I sneered at her reaction.
What the hell was she planning to do? Go sightseeing again?
I remained calm hanging over the ledge, hidden in the shadows until she tilted her head up and as if it was in slow motion, her cardigan sexily fell down from her shoulders revealing the body I've been observing since earlier. My man down there began to heat up again and this time, I fucking felt myself blush everywhere. How freakin' incredible. I shook my head and tried to snap out of it.
I better get going. This is some stalker type thing, and that's definitely not a road I'm trying to take. I looked down and realized somebody below me decided to hang at their veranda, forcing me to find an alternative way.
My eyes looked below me and around to figure out a way to jump to a different place. I looked up and decided to jump up and head to the building to the right. I quietly flung myself upwards but clumsily, I landed on my feet but hit the metal roof making a loud sound. Instantly, I make it behind the wall before Miss Eave could lay her eyes on me.
I'm becoming predictable and it's unsettling.
I heard her whisper, "Who..." but she couldn't ask aloud.
I kept quiet. Should I say something? Should I leave?
"Who's there?" she managed to ask. Of course, I stayed silent. But then again, where's the daring and the fun in that? Maybe I should remember that this chick thought she could take me last time. I didn't speak just yet, though.
I heard footsteps then stopped in the middle of walking.
Bad idea, I thought. I should probably just leave. I slightly squatted, setting myself before jumping to the building across but––
"It's you isn't it?" her voice slightly calm but eager. I stopped moving and didn't jump.
I kept still.
"Are you here to hurt me?" She asked, almost a whisper, but it sounded so damn pleasing to me. She sounded way different than before when she was shouting and acting all brave. Now, I'm not so sure.
It's both: curious and brave. And it's so much better. I couldn't leave. It's like my mind told me not to.
"I know you're there, you know." She said with the same tone, but it was playful this time. I could imagine that sneer when I first faced her.
It's like her words ironically are telling me not to go. I still didn't jump. I paused for a second then sighed. "I'm not here to hurt anybody."
"Try saying that to the guy you cornered the other day."
She's really testing me. What is wrong with this woman? It's like she's not even scared that the man behind this wall might have a plot to kill her.
"What you saw was different."
"I'm pretty sure you tried to hurt him."
"Had to do what had to be done to people like him."
I heard one footstep, "People like him?"
I prepared myself in case she went too close. "People who threaten the goodness of this city."
She paused then I heard a chuckle. Of course she would not believe.
"What, so, you're like a...a cop?" She chuckled again, "I don't think I've ever seen a cop appear from the ground and magically appear on the rooftop. Are you some sort of conman or something? You know that trend?"
"What trend?" I sneered and played along,
"The magician type thing where they're actually stealing. Is that what this is? Later, you'll appear behind me and reveal yourself in a suit?"
"That's a thing?" I laughed,
I heard a sound, "Well I don't know, man, you tell me."
"If I did, you wouldn't believe me, trust me."
Then there was silence. I glanced to my right and then, I heard footsteps.
