In a deep husky voice he teased, "Come out (y/n), i know where you are. You can't hide from me, i won't promise i'll leave you unharmed but i can say that you will not die. I solemnly swear it on my brother's grave." His voice deepened as he swore his oath. Not that it was going to tempt you to leave your final hope of survival.
You cover your mouth with your dry hands to silence your heavy breaths and unsettled heaving. Although there was barely any oxygen left in your vintage wardrobe, you much rather be at loss of air than to die by the hand of another human being. As the footsteps come closer slowly, your heart grows in your throat, making it difficult to breath which lead you to stop breathing all together. Why was you acting so strange today? Why was you so... scared? You peer through a small crack through the doors of the wardrobe and you see a man. He doesn't look too old judging by his frame and he has jet black hair; it was straw-like which was obviously untamed. His hoodie was stained with multiple colours judging from food and nature. Skinny black jeans enveloped his long legs which emphasised his height.
A chuckle left his lips as he stroked your hanging Polaroid photos with his antique knife large enough to cut a stool in two. You worried about him damaging your precious memories but you dare not to move yourself. "Are these your 'friends'? They look pathetic. As if they could ever protect you." He mutters as he moved along and began to rummage through your drawers, making your room messier than it has ever been before. You didn't care though. Making your room more messy was an achievement as you used to always drown your chamber in your clothes and useless items. "What is this junk?" he remarks as he pulls out a music box. Encrypted on it was a red rose with vines wrapped round it. The man tried to pry it open but to his avail he failed.
The dog smelt it and got excited. You wonder why the dog was interested in your box. What was in it? It had been passed down from your grandmother to you before she passed away. Apparently she was given it in the same woods that lay beside your home but died before you knew what was in it. She also showed signs of dismay when someone asked her to open it. Intrigued by the dog's excitement, the man puts it into his pocket and sneezes. You decide enough is enough. You wanted to keep your precious emblems no matter what value they have!
With a thud you jump out from the wardrobe and guard yourself with your umbrella you dropped beforehand. The sudden noise had made the dog jump but he quickly recovered and stared at you blankly. However the man's facial expression was unreadable due to the art on his face. Was it makeup? Special effects? He had a chelsea smile painted onto his face as well as lidless eyes. Black rings emphasised his eyes and his hair contrasted against his pale, leathery skin. What happened to him? He looks down at his dog and smirks, "Hey Smile, it seems our friend has finally shown up. It's rude to keep your friends waiting." he mocks effortlessly as he places his knife into his pocket. You wanted your trinket back at whatever cause necessary.
But you stuttered, "Can... Can i have my b-box back please... It's important to me..." you squeeze the green umbrella in your grasp and remain in the same stance. Smile and the man look at each other. "You mean this box?" he pulls out the box and waves it in front of you. Full of adrenaline, you run towards the boy and try to grab the item from his grasp but he was too tall therefore he found amusement in your struggle. "Give it back!" you wail as you jump but you two lost balance and you fell on top of the boy.
From this angle you could see his features more clearly. He wasn't as scary as he was from afar; his bright blue eyes sparkled in the light of the moon, his skin was moisturised and clean, his hair was fine and strong. Smile walked over confidently and sniffed your body. The man didn't move as he was in shock, he simply stared at you. In embarrassment and anger, you jump off from him and stole your box back. "That wouldn't have happened if you just gave me back my box!" you moan, but he wasn't listening as his focus was on standing up. No response was given to you which angered you more, "why are you here anyway? Couldn't you have gone to burden someone else?!" but this annoyed him.
Suddenly, the dog grabbed your wrist with his jaw and began pulling you outside. You reluctantly followed as his grip tightened when you tried to resist and that the boy was behind you leaving little room for escape. Can't you at least tell me your name?" you mutter as you follow, now walking at your own speed and free from Smile's grasp. The hooded man walked next to you confidently as he scoffed, "It's Jeff. No nicknames or you'll die." You nod in response.
His name is Jeff? That name is not common round your parts so you wonder how his acquaintance had brushed over your mind. Since your town is so small, everyone knew each other, so learning of a new person was a surprise even to you however you understand that his complexion isn't the neatest so he may have had his reasons to be a shut-in kind of guy.
You ignore everything around you and concentrate on the journey with these two strange creatures. A man with an artistic face and a dog with unrealistic facial features. What do they want with you? You reach the woods finally and it seems so much darker now that you are up close. The only things visible were the leaves that hung above your heads, some bodies of trees that were illuminated by the moon and a path of stones. Why were they taking you to the woods when it is such a dangerous place?
