RECAP: Kayla went out for a walk, the evening after the one they all spent at Pete’s. During her walk she met Adam – who she nicknamed as ‘leather jacket boy'. Meanwhile; Jaybee was over at Faye and Kayla’s place, spending some time with the former. Also that same night; Nea’s friends were hosting a party – the same party at which Nea hooked up with Carlo; yes, Faye and Kayla’s next door neighbour. The following morning; Nea and Jaybee break up – but you will also hear more about this from Jaybee in this part.
CHAPTER 9: JAYBEE
“Hmm?” Stirring from sleep; I felt something quietly moving against me, not quite understanding what it was. I slowly opened my eyes, and blinked my vision clear a few times, to found myself gazing into a pair of brown ones.
Oh right – it was Faye.
She rubbed her eyes, and in a voice raspy from sleep said; “Did I fall asleep on you, again?”
“Technically; we fell asleep on each other.”
“We’re like a bunch of old people,” she groaned, making me chuckle. “I wonder what time it is...” She gave a small yawn.
“My neck hurts,” I said suddenly.
“Oh shut up,” and she pushed me to get out of bed.
“Fine, fine,” I said, dragging myself out. “My back hurts, too.”
“You sound like a pregnant woman.”
I stuck out my tongue at her before I proceeded to go out of the room and walking into the door frame in the process, which sent Faye into loud fits of laughter. “I hate you,” I said, trying not to laugh myself.
I found Kayla sitting on the sofa in the living area; laptop in front of her and a bowl of cereal in hand.
She looked up as she heard me approaching, widening her eyes; “Enjoyed your wild night?”
I blinked at her. “What, no. We didn’t ... we – no.” Well, didn’t I sound like a complete idiot, stumbling over my words like that?
Kayla smirked at me and then snorted into laughter. “Oh God, you’re blushing. Relax; I’m just picking on you ... Come sit down.”
Sighing heavily; I went to sit down on the other end of the sofa. I narrowed my eyes at her; “You don’t like me much, do you?”
“I try my best,” she joked – or at least I hoped she was. Kayla, you see, just had so many sides to her – at least that’s what I had grasped from the little time I had known her – and you never knew which side was about to pop out.
“God, my neck hurts,” I repeated as I put a hand to the back of my neck; trying to magically will the aching away.
I heard Kayla clear her throat from beside me. She put her empty cereal bowl down and then spoke; “Are all Swedish guys creeps?”
I blinked. “I said my neck hurts, not that I’m into 11 year olds.”
She rolled her eyes. “Who cares about your neck?”
“Aren’t you adorable?”
And then she started speaking really fast: “Well; you know I went out last night, yeah? Anyway; I got lost and ended up in this weird area where I thought I was going to end up chopped up into a million pieces. But then I saw the light.”
