I stood on the front porch with the terrible trio; Charlie, Maddy and Joe, who brought me home after my meeting with Jamie. They were mostly excited for me, that I kissed Jamie but Maddy seemed unlike herself.
"So do your folks know? " Charlie asked, whilst holding himself. It was cold out and he hadn't brought a jacket.
"Dude! " Joe nudged, or rather knocked his brother on the shoulder.
Maddy hit Joe on the head in return, and gave him a look that said 'Don't start. '
I laughed. Then Charlie did too, and so did his brother. Maddy however did not.
She looked me square in the eyes.
"Liann, " she spoke with uncertainty.
"Do they know? That you're... You know, gay?" she asked as if forcing the words out.
I shook my head, no.
"Oh. " Charlie said and then the kitchen's light went on.
"I guess your parents know you're home. " Maddy said and smiled faintly.
" We have to go now. " she said.
She walked back to the car and Charlie walked behind her after squeezing my shoulder.
Joe stayed behind though.
"Look Liann, I know Maddy seems a bit cold now but she's just a bit concerned for you. " he said and we heard footsteps nearing the front door.
"Anyway, good night. I'm happy that you got what you wanted. See you soon... Hopefully. " he said.
"Joe, " I said before he made his way down the steps.
"Thanks, for everything. Really. " I said and smiled at him with my face burning in embarrassment.
He looked at me offered me a huge grin, flew back up the stairs and gave me a quick, rough hug. Then he left and the front door opened.
It was grandma Cathy.
She was wearing her night gown and her hair was thrown into a messy bun, accompanied by a few stray hairs dangling like strings on a child's mobile.
I stepped inside and she closed the door behind me.
"Did you have a good time? " she asked wiggling her eyebrows at me.
I was beginning to wonder if she had been a rebellious teen in her youth.
I smiled and said," Yes Gran. I had a good time. Wonderful, actually. "
I looked at her and went to the kitchen, knowing she'd follow, to hear more about my night.
I opened the fridge and scanned the leftovers of tonight and decided on a pudding cup instead.
I placed my cup on the counter and turned to retrieve a spoon from the cupboard. When I turned to open my dessert, it was gone.
Gran had snatched it.
"You snooze you loose kiddo. " she said as she opened the pudding and went at it with her finger.
Gross.
"Not cool. Gran. " I said grabbing another pudding cup from the fridge.
"What's not cool kiddo, is that you still haven't spilled about where you went off to tonight. " she said peering up at me from her delicacy.
"Why do you sound so annoyed Gran? Did you not enjoy watching Scandal with mom? " I asked with a smirk on my face. I knew she was upset. It was probably my dad's fault.
