"I'm falling in love, but it's falling apart." - The Maine
I fell asleep somewhere over New Jersey, not waking up until the plane landed in Boston. My eyes flickered open, just as the sun was beginning to rise, turning the inky black sky into a pale shade of gray. It appeared as if an early snow was beginning to fall, as small flurries of frost were littering the sides of the runway.
Remy brought the plane to a graceful stop, and there was a symphony of seat belts being unbuckled as we all got up and stretched, even though the flight couldn't have been that long.
Jet made his way over to me, holding out a hand to help me up. "How're you holding up, kiddo?"
"Tired." I yawned. "I just want to go back to sleep."
"You can soon, I promise. We just have to pick up some supplies and then we'll head straight to Remy's apartment and you can go right to bed."
I stood up, rubbing my eyes. I still had last night's make up on, and had no doubt it was streaked all over my face. Here I was, on a private jet with four of Manhattan's most eligible bachelors all looking straight out of some sort of Bond movie, and I was a streaky, scraggly haired hole-y sweatpants wearing train wreck. My life was, to put it nicely, an absolute disaster.
I followed the boys off the plane and down the stairs to the tarmac, where a shiny black Escalade was waiting.
"I called Grier." Remy explained. "He's my best friend, I knew I could count on him to get us to my place safely."
The door opened and a young man in a leather jacket and an MIT sweatshirt got out of the driver's seat before walking over to us.
"Wassup G!" Remy high fived Grier, who had dark features and a kind face.
"Good to see you buddy." Grier smiled at him before turning to the rest of us. "Nice to meet you guys. Grier Logan. Remy and I went to Exeter together."
"I'm Jet, and this is Ryder, Niall, and Stella." Jet shook his hand. "Thanks for coming to get us this early in the morning."
"I'm happy to help." Grier smiled. "Everyone get in." He gestured to the car.
I climbed into the Escalade, followed by Niall, Ryder and Jet. Remy sat up front with Grier.
"So, where too Rem?" Grier asked. "Your place?"
"Let's stop by the grocery store first. Then your dorm. I need to pick up some stuff."
"Alright, we can go to the convenience shop on campus."
Next to me, Jet was texting someone with a quiet intensity. I wondered for a quick second who he was talking too. Niall had a serious expression on his face, looking like he was deep in thought. Ryder, I realized for the first time since we'd left the party, was being very uncharacteristically silent. All in all, none of us were ourselves.
After a while of driving through the frosty streets of Boston, ivy covered brick buildings characteristic of a university started to come into view, with banners reading "Massachusetts Institute of Technology" hanging from all the lamp posts. Students bundled up in jackets and scarves trudged through the snow covered sidewalks to their early morning classes, blissfully unaware of anything besides tests and homework and what bar they'd hang out at with their friends tonight. I longed for their normality.
"Geez, i've missed it here." Remy sighed. "Why did I go back to New York again?"
"You tell me." Said Grier. "You were like a God around here."
"I sure was." Remy smiled, leaning back in his seat. "I should have known better than to leave you with my legacy though."
Grier playfully punched Remy in the shoulder. "Glad to see you're still a huge pompous asshole."
