It's quiet as I walk home. No one around. Not Felix. Not Cloud. Just a slight distant sound of sirens at the school. Roy is dead. And no one knows but me, Jordan, and Blaze. I grab my phone and call Tamara.
"Hey Alex, how did the duel go? Roy won right?" She laughs not knowing what's about to come. "Man, those idiots didn't know what they were against. Cloud get over here, time to hear the news of the duel. Spill the beans Alex."
"Roy is dead." Silence.
"...you...you're joking right? She just lost, right?" I can hear Cloud in the background mumbling.
"Jordan's gun was replaced with a real one." I tell the situation in detail, I'm almost crying by the time I finish.
"Oh my....Alex I'm so sorry you had to witness that. Listen, me and Cloud can come over right away and we can-" I cut her off.
"I just need time alone." I end the call without a response and wipe my tears.
Felix is waiting at the door for me, and by now I'm almost completely crying. Felix rushes over to me without another thought.
"Alex? What's wrong? What happened? Are you okay?" I can't speak through tears so I just lay my head against his chest and wait.
He wraps his arms around me and grabs my hand reading my memories.
"I'm so sorry. I wish you didn't have to see that." We walk inside and to my room, it's silent now as I roll under my covers.
A text pops up on my phone, it's Emily. Tamara told her what happened and now she's coming over to comfort me. She's too good for this world. Almost five minutes later the door bell rings I open it. The first thing Emily does is hug me. All three of us sit in my room and just talk, Emily tries to cheer me up. But she doesn't realize how much death is in my mind. Adrian, and now Roy.
"Hey, how about tomorrow we head to the arcade after school?" Emily smiles to me, Felix just holds a black expression.
"Sure, I don't mind. I just need to clear my head." Emily grabs my blanket and wraps it around me before standing.
"Then it's settled, see you tomorrow. And get some good sleep, you need it." She gives me one last hug before heading out and leaving.
"Get some sleep." Felix turns in his chair and lays his head down while entering sleep mode.
No point in staying up. I curl up an fall asleep quickly. Opening my eyes I'm in the same dream, more red has scattered. I turn around to see three chairs lined up evenly separated. Something zooms past me blocking my vision for a second. And now, two of the seats are filled. Adrian and Roy are seated in two of the seats, from the eyes above is all blacked out.
"Adrian? Roy?.......What's going on? What am I having these dreams? Why....why are you dead?" I'm crying, I know I am.
"Who's next?" They both speak at the same time, it's creepy.
"...who's next?" And that's where it ends, waking up the next morning and heading to the kitchen already dressed and ready.
"This is new. Did something change? You usually don't get dressed before breakfast." Felix is sitting at the table again, he made breakfast again too.
"I'm just...trying to keep my head clear today." He smiles as I sit down, he understands...at least I think so.
We start heading for school after breakfast, Cloud comes running down the sidewalk and grabs me.
"We need to talk." Felix slows down in a protective way but I nod him on, and he walks ahead.
"What's wrong?" We both slow our pace to create a bit of space between us and Felix.
"I was recently searching online for defective robot reports and I found so many reports of deaths caused by a single robot. It keeps changing its name but it's always male and always starts with F. I think Felix is that killing robot. I don't trust him and neither should you. I'm worried." He seems serious but I can't help but see anything wrong with Felix.
"I don't understand. There's nothing wrong with Felix, he's normal. I don't care what things say online, they could be faked or even it could be a totally different robot. If you can't trust him.....I can't trust you. I'm sorry." I walk forward and grab Felix as I speed walk to school with him, leaving Cloud behind. I'm truly sorry.
Once at school Felix walks away to get something from the office for me while I head for class. I take my seat and slide it to the end of the table away from Cloud's seat. After saying something like that, I don't think I could look him in the eyes again. Everyone's talking, even Jordan and Blaze are talking normally. They must be trying to forget what happened. Some kids come by and say sorry for the lose, everyone knows Roy was close to me and my friends. It's hard to think she's really gone. The window blinds are closed today, watching a video today I presume. But lots of kids sit on the back counter near the window, some kids have even opened the window to take pictures of the view. Then one of them screams, and everyone's at the window.
"Someone fell from the roof!!" Everyone's freaking out.
I grab my stuff and race down the stairs to the first floor and outside where some kids are already looking at who fell. I can hear sirens in the distance. I rush over and past a few people only to see the one thing I didn't want to. If front of me lays the dead body of Emily. And for a small second the bodies of Adrian and Roy are there too. Adrian with a rope around his neck and Roy with a bullet wound in her chest.
