CHERYL'S POV

Toni and I walk to class together everyday. Everyday its the same route, the one that passes Jughead's locker. I go with her, even though it's out of the way, because I want her to be happy. Today though, she yanked me in the opposite direction. The swiftness nearly made my textbooks hurtle out of my hands.

"What the hell TT! Class is this way."

"I know," she shushed, "but I have some classified information to share with you."

"Oooh I love gossip," I chirped, slinging my bookbag back over my shoulder. "Spill the tea."

She looked around to make sure nobody was listening, then leaned in. "So I was thinking.. It's time to finally talk to Jughead."

"You can't be serious," I exclaimed.

"I know it's risky, but prom is in a month! I was hoping he'd be my date, and that can't happen if he doesn't even know my name."

I sighed, "Okay TT, I trust you. But what does this have to do with me?"

"I need your help Bombshell," she whined, "Teach me how to get him to like me."

I didn't want to help her suck up to a guy that had his eye on someone else, but who was I to stop her? If she really was so determined, it's better to have a mentor than to let her bumble in alone (even though she's totally adorable when she does). Besides, I made a pact with myself that I would support my bestie at every chance I got.

"Alright, I'm in."

TONI'S POV

"Alright, I'm in."

Oh my god, I can't believe it! Cheryl is the best in the business. If she couldn't set me up with Jughead, no one could.

"So? Lead away!" I said excitedly.

She folded her arms. "Well you're going to need a new wardrobe, but I can take care of that... maybe lose the black lipstick... oh and INVITE HIM OUT."

"What?" I stuttered, "I can't do that."

"I know, it's so surprising, who could've thought that you'd have to actually speak to the guy you want to date. What a crazy world we live in."

"Oh ha-ha. Very funny. But what do I say? I don't know how to flirt!"

"That's what I'm here for Cha-Cha," she smiled warmly. "First of all, be confident. Maybe that means put a little hip swing in your walk, maybe it means replying with a little attitude. Hell, it could even mean just standing closer than usual. Just act like you know what you're doing."

I breathed, "Okay, then what?"

"He's a very sarcastic guy. He'd appreciate a dark sense of humor. Try to crack a joke once in a while, or if he makes one laugh then add onto it if possible. Then make your move." She flipped her immaculately curled red hair over her shoulder. "Oh I got it! Ask if he wants to meet at Pop's for some casual convo."

"That's perfect," I gasped, "He won't be able to resist a burger!"

She mumbled something.

"What?" I asked.

She snapped nervously, "Nothing!"

I smiled at her uneasily. "Thank you so much Cher, you're the best friend I could ever ask for."

I dove in for a hug, staying there for a while. Something in me didn't want to move, but I unlocked myself anyways, ignoring my desire. She lingered in my embrace then pulled away, blushing beet red. She smiled a sparkling grin. The mortified look that honestly didn't suit her melted away as her soft brown eyes gleamed with gratitude.

"Looks like we'll make a woman out of you yet."

CHERYL'S POV

"Oh I got it! Ask if he want's to meet at Pop's for some casual convo," I suggested.

"That's perfect," she replied with an excitement that made me itch with anger, "He won't be able to resist a burger!"

"Or your pretty face," I said under my breath.

She looked confused. "What?"

I was so embarrassed. I struggled for words, only being able to choke out a mediocre, "Nothing!"

She seemed uncomfortable, but thanked me profusely anyway. She hugged me. We had hugged before (after all, we're best friends), but this time it was different. It lasted longer, and we pulled each other closer. It filled me with a primitive ecstasy that I had never felt before. I shunned it, burying it in a deep dark place with the intention of it never returning, despite secretly wishing it would last forever.

We awkwardly parted and I smiled with the hope that she would notice the glimmer in my eyes. "Looks like we'll make a woman out of you yet."
