Nearly waking up late for school, I was running around the house trying to get my black shorts and then my blue shirt. I just decided to put my shoes on in the car because I barely had time to even brush my hair!
The car ride seemed a little longer than usual. I really wasn't looking forward into see Ashlynn, but glad to see Gabi. She is like the only one who understands me!
"OMG hey!" I heard Gabi say as I got into the classroom, "whoa wait. What's up with your hair?"
"Ha ha I woke up really late and barely and time to brush it. Does it really look that bad?" I said trying to brush it even more. It's straight, but when you don't brush it, it doesn't look that pretty.
"Ha ha no it's fine. It just looks a little messy. Not that bad."
"Phew thanks."
"OMG do you have dreads or something? What's up with your hair? You look like an idiot!" Ashlynn said. Her hair was in perfect curls. Lucky. Why can't I just be pretty...
I just decided to ignore her and went to class. Everyone kept laughing and pointing at me and I found it very hard to not scream my head off.
"Hey leave her alone." I heard someone say to Ashlynn. I was too shy to look bad and I just kept walking.

The school day was over and I was so glad to go home. I was actually looking forward to doing my homework so I can forget what happened today.
Why couldn't I just look back? Who stood up for me. It definitely wasn't Gabi because she left before that happened. It sounded like a guy. But I couldn't tell because I didn't freaking look back!
I was actually mad at myself. What's wrong with me?
I just continued to do homework and try to get those things off my mind. Thankfully it was easy so It didn't take too long. I was so tired. Plus I thought sleeping would also help getting things off my mind. I still wanted to scream but I remained silent.
Silence is the loudest scream.
The next morning wasn't as bad as the last. I didn't wake up late because I actually went to bed earlier. So I had time to do everything so hopefully I wouldn't get made fun of today.
But boy, was I wrong. I got made fun of for everything!! My shoes my shirt my shorts my hair my face. Not even by Ashlynn. Not even when Ashlynn was around. Also Gabi was out sick! She had the flu and would be out for a long time. My life sucks!
I had so much trouble not crying. I was so glad to get home and cry all I wanted. I didn't have to do my homework since it was Friday. I stayed in my room crying. I was going to call Gabi but decided not too since she was sick. She needs to rest.
I thought if I went to sleep I'll be fine since I wouldn't have school the next day. I found it hard to sleep but I tried.
The next morning, my eyes were still puffy and a little red from crying. My mom was at work and my brother was probably still sleeping so I could go downstairs without being judged about my crying.
My dad and my mom divorced and he is living in Massachusetts. He never talks to us anymore but sometimes my mom for money issues or something stupid. They divorced when I was 9. Now I'm 11 and even though it's been 2 years, it seems like forever. My dad wasn't nice but he did help me ride my bike. They divorced because he went to jail twice, but my mom won't tell me why. Also because he would abuse my mom a lot! I witnessed most of it and that's how I never got a good impression on him.
•••
I ate breakfast as quick as I could so no one would see me. Thankfully I managed to get back inside my room before my brother stepped out of his. I looked in the mirror and my puffy eyes weren't as bad anymore.
I decided to do my homework so I wouldn't have to tomorrow.
"Jessica!" Mom screamed.
I was too tired to get up, but thankfully you couldn't tell I had cried.
I walked downstairs slowly and met my mom at the bottom of the stairs. She stared at me for awhile and I was very concerned.
"You're brother and I and going to Massachusetts to see your dad. We couldn't afford to bring you. We got you a babysitter and-"
"A babysitter? I am in 5th grade! You have left me alone for a whole weekend before! Why can I just not-" I started. A BABYSITTER? Really....
"Honey. Listen. We are going to be gone for a two months to 4 months. You need to have the babysitter. Jessica, don't freak out. You will like her a lot. She used to work with me back in the old days and she is so nice and fun! You will love her. But your brother and I are leaving next week so you don't need to worry yet. But Monday after school we need to start cleaning the house. Your babysitter is coming Thursday and is going to stay with all of us for that day and then we are leaving Friday. She will live with you for the following months. You will be fine." She said giving me hug for some reason. Maybe she thought I was about to cry since I had a little red in the eyes.
"Fine. Who is she?" I asked getting out of her grasp.
"Her name is Theresa Hofman. She is 18 years old and lived a couple blocks away from us anyway so she can go home if she needs to."
I actually thought I would like Theresa. She sounded cool I guess. Hopefully...
