CHAPTER 8: THE REUNION

I never really expected that Andhy and I would be such very good friends. The years I waited for him to notice me really did paid off. Now I believed what others would say, “Expect the unexpected.”

Everything had change sometime in the year 1999. I was visiting my grandparents at the Villa for a day or two. Tita Aurien, Andhy’s mother, came to the house and had a chat with my grandma.  I was holding my cell-phone sending a text message to Lana when I showed up in front of them to say hi. Tita Aurien asks me a favor, she asks me to send a text message to Andhy. When I was done typing in the words she wanted to send to him she gave me his number then I send it.

Weeks had pass and I was in my room just woke up. I have no agenda for the whole day so I lay on my bed for a few more minutes. I grab my cell-phone and checked if someone had text me. Then I remember that I had saved Andhy’s number and I decided to say hi. At first I don’t know what to type in and then I end up with, “Hi, kamusta?” I forgot to type my name on it so he replied, “Hu u?” I responded, “Cassy”

That morning was a never-ending exchange of text messages between Andhy and I. I can’t tell exactly how happy I was and I wanted to tell someone how I feel or I was going to blow. I can’t go to Lana because she was at the Villa so I just send her a text message. She replied back saying she was happy for me and let me promise to tell all about it when we see each other. In my room I was alone smiling all the time, giggling, jumping for joy every time my cell-phone beeps. Because I know the text message was from him.  Moments later I went downstairs and saw Dana at the kitchen cooking. I told her about Andhy, like everything from the very start, she listens very carefully and every time my cell-phone beeps we giggled.

That exchange of text messages took for hours. He told me that he was planning to go out of the country to work for 5 years or so. I was devastated by the news and felt lonely. Then on his next text message he asks me out to meet him at the mall to talk to rap things out. He asks me to meet him on that very same day that afternoon. He had a feeling that we might not see each other for a very long time. I didn’t think twice I said yes.

We had our first date. Another dream of mine came true and I don’t want to push my luck so I just gone with the flow. I saw him approaching and my heart froze and I blushed.  I don’t want him to notice it so I just breathe slowly, smiled and calm myself. We talked, we walked, we ate and we watch a movie. Then we walked again, we talked again and we ate again. That whole time I was with him was so unbelievable. I was used on just hoping and dreaming of these to happen and now he was actually here beside me walking and in front of me talking to me.  This would be a wonderful beginning for both of as even though we knew that sooner or later he will be an ocean away from me.

I was with Dana when I meet Andhy at the mall. Dana decided to go malling alone and let Andhy and I catch things up with our long lost friendship. When it was time to go in our separate ways Dana and I meet again and gone home. In the car I was unstoppable on telling Dana what had happened the whole afternoon. I was so delighted.

The exchange of text messages of Andhy and I never stop until midnight and the next day and the next. I fell asleep with Andhy in my thoughts and the song “Maybe This Time” was my background music.

Andhy was staying with his parents at the Villa and I was staying with my mothers, 2 hours drive from the Villa. My grandparents noticed my unexpected visits at their place they don’t say a thing about it but it shows in their actions and the way they look at me in some point. But one time my grandma asks me of what was we were doing outside the house in the middle of the night. I told her we were just talking and she asks me again if there is something special going on between Andhy and me. I told here maybe.

Andhy gave me something that was really special and priceless that no one ever gave me before. Some tried to but failed. He gave me his time and showed me his affection. In the whole day of his busy work at their poultry instead of heading straight home and sleep he texts me and ask me if I can meet him outside and have a little chat before he goes to bed. Who am I to refuse the offer? As I was making my way to our front gate I can see him getting out of their house closing the gate behind him. I never took away my eyes on him while he was walking towards me. He stopped when he was standing in front of me and said hi and I responded with hello. Omigod, he smells great and looks handsome. When he smiles and our eyes locked with each other everything stops even time and the midnights cold warm breeze will touch our skin and bring us back in the real world.

All lights in every house at the Villa were already turned off and everybody was sleeping to be ready for a new day. For Andhy and I the day was just beginning. We were sitting side by side on the gutter under the post in front of my grandparent’s house. We were talking non-stop as if there weren’t any tomorrow. He would get back at his place and get his guitar and a songbook. He would play me some music that we both love and shares each other’s dreams. It was like we were back in our childhood not having much of a problem to deal with that doesn’t ask too many questions regarding on emotional feelings and doesn’t care much about the world. It was just pure laughter, heart warming and breath taking happiness. The nights that we spend together on that same spot doing the same thing over and over was the sunshine in our lives.
