CHAPTER 7: THE UNEXPECTED MEETINGS
I did get tired of waiting for Andhy to give me a little of his attention. I did moved on and fall in love on my senior year. I still do see Andhy from time to time but when he smiled at me I never felt the same way like before. I was so drown to my boyfriend that I didn’t think of him anymore. Andhy was a freshman in college and I was a senior in high school. When I enter college I moved in with my mother. It was a 2-hour drive from the Villa. Being so far away from my hometown I seldom heard from Andhy and seldom longed for his attention.
The Villa Rosario was my hometown and where my family is and where my heart is. I do visit my grandparents at the Villa in every occasion. One occasion that I could never forget was Janis, Andhy’s cousin, 18th birthday party. Were I had my first dance with my long lost friend, Andhy. It was like we were some place else with nobody was around and the only thing I can hear was the music playing. It was like exactly what I have imagined it before. For the first time, he was talking to me again and we hold hands. In that short moment I did forgot that I have a boyfriend.

I grew up in a family that religious values are very important. I studied in a Catholic school my whole life. I go to church every Sunday with my grandma. I even became a church choir for a while with Lana, Aisha and Kisha. When the month of May comes along every Catholic person in the town celebrates the Flores de Mayo. We go to church to attend mass from the first day of May to the last day. The busiest week was the last weeks of May where everybody was busy preparing for the Santa Krusan. It’s a kind of parade where young kids and young adults dressed in different gowns parading around the town together with a band and the Statue of Mama Mary with very beautiful decorations.
I’ve been in Santa Krusan since I was little and I was paired with different guys. The last year that I’ll be joining the Santa Krusan was the most memorable one because my partner was Andhy. I thought, finally after almost a decade not talking to him I’ll finally have a chance to spend time with him. A long walk around the town with Andhy was like a dream come true. I didn’t care if he was never going to talk to me what matter was being close to him along the way. But I was wrong the parade had never started yet we were talking nonstop. It was like nobody can stop us on our exchange of questions and answers to each other. He was back, my old friend was back I thought to myself.
As time goes by things starts to change between Andhy and I. Especially since the Santa Krusan. There was an exchange of hi and hello’s when we saw each other from a distance. Sometimes we even talk a little when we bump into each other on the road or somewhere else. But there was one thing that hadn’t changed my heartbeats so fast whenever he was talking to me. And when we say our goodbye’s and see yah’s I turn around and giggles. Then I will run to Lana’s place and tell all about what had happened and we, both giggles.
~~~
It was June and the Villa was celebrating the town fiesta. My grandparents prepared a small gathering for the whole family and for the visitors. I was walking to the car outside to get something when a car pulled over at Andhy’s front gate. I acted like I didn’t noticed it and to my surprise Andhy called out my name out loud. I turned around and saw him approaching me. I smiled and greeted him. We were talking for almost 3 or 5 minutes when I saw a girl came out from the car. When Andhy saw me looking to the direction of his car he immediately introduced her to me. He said her name was Darleen and at the end of his sentence was “My girlfriend...”
