I watched the dragon from a distance.

He was a handsome creature. I flicked my shoulder-length black hair behind my ears. It was straight and annoying, just the way I loved it. I watched him. Those black scales? Contrast with my skin. The lamplike orange eyes? Like uncovering pearls at the beach. His bravery and selflessness? An amazing quality. He was the best friend anybody could have. I met him once at school. At school, he had the same eyes and black skin. No scales, of course, but still. He had black, curly, shoulder-length hair that shined in the sunlight. He was amazing as a human, and greater in dragon form. I turned from him so I didn't seem like I was staring and I watched the moon. It was full and rising slowly. Suddenly, from behind me, Mitch screamed in agony. I looked at the dragon and screamed as well.  His hand-things were melting. He cried out in more terror than anything, and his hands became human-like with a sickening crunch. They were just the bone with huge talons. He shrank to my size, and crawled to me, begging for help, on his crunching and twisted mass of what used to be legs. I screamed, backing away, and knocked myself out on the kirin head behind me.

"Pst. Psssst. PSSSSSST! Kalie!" I woke up to hearing my name from a male, human voice.

"Mitchel? Mitch, are you really human?" I was shocked and happy. "Or was that snapping thing all in my head?" I asked, patting the bump on my head with my palm. The full moon wasn't all the way up, so it was around 9:30. I checked my watch, which said 9:24. Close enough.

"Yeah, it's me! Got any extra clothes?" He asked urgently.

"What, you naked?"

"Maybe!" I was shocked by his tone. I checked around but found nothing. Any little piece of anything wouldn't fit.

"How about this sock?"

"Ugh. So I'm...not a dragon, and I'm naked in the dark with a girl." He sounded embarrassed.

"Wait. Are you human or not?" I was confused.

"Well....not quite." He replied.

"Can I see?"

"I'M NAKED!" He shouted.

"I KNOW!" I calmed down a little. "Mitch, there is a buck fur over here." I picked it up and threw it in the location his voice came from. I heard somebody frantically wrap it around them. "Now can you come out?"

"I don't want to." He sounded embarrassed. I grinned.

"Please?"

"Fine. But only because I begged you and you did what I wanted." He came forward. I saw his glinting, black skin. No scales! YES! However, his flesh looked rotten, and his lips were sewn together in a way. I watched as the lips sealed tighter. His skin looked like tree bark, and on his shoulders was what looked like roots growing. It scared me. His eyes, bone-like nose, and inside the mouth was glowing orange. He had huge horns that looked like trees sprouting from his forehead. The top tips of his ears looked like wings. He was wooden....? I giggled. It looked so weird. He frowned at me, his mouth warping weirdly. I cackled, and soon was laying on the floor, laughing. "This is not funny." He said, wrapping the fur around himself. I watched him as I laughed. He glared.

"Don't we...ahaha..have school tomorrow?"

"Didn't...haha...the school go up in flames?" He mocked. Jerk.

"It...ahahaha...didn't," I said. I stopped laughing. "We should sleep. We can work on restoring you more in the morning and after school." I yawned.

"Wait. You. Want me," He waved his hand around himself. "To go with you, to school tomorrow?"

"Well, uh, yes."

"Fine. Just fine. Great." He humphed, back into the dark. He wrapped the fur around me. "I'm going to be back, I'm getting food." But I didn't here him return. The dream about zombie unicorns gorging out my stomach was too loud to hear his return.
