To say that Sadie Kane was frustrated was like saying a -299 degrees day is cold.

A huge understatement.

She had to go to school to not seem suspicious, and her brother is finally going too, along with Zia Rashid, now one of Sadie's best friends (or maybe best frenemy), and Sadie's boyfriend, Walt Stone. However, the fact that all her mates in the Twenty-First Nome are going hardly cheered her up, mostly because most of the mortals attending the Brooklyn Academy for the Gifted are just-Argh!

The popular girls, the 'plastic bags', as Sadie often call them, are super mean, and love to annoy (read: unsuccessfully bully) Sadie. They try to flirt with Walt (keyword: try), try to steal Sadie's friends Lacy and Nyssa (again, the keyword is try), try to hurt her with spiteful words and snarky comments at her clothes and makeup (which is close to none). The bullying never work, but still. It's annoying.

Today, Sadie is sporting her normal hair-dye, this time orange and purple, and has left it down without bothering to brush it. A black leather jacket outside of a loose T-shirt with her school name printed on it won't set the new trend, but Sadie doesn't care. At least it looks cool (or at least in her opinion), especially when she paired it with dark jeans that has leather accents running down the sides.

Anyways, that's enough about clothes. Sadie quickly brushed her teeth, took one last look at the mirror, and hastily ran down the staircase without bothering to make her bed or close her bedroom door. She devoured her breakfast and hurried to school.

Sadie was fifteen minutes late already in the first place, she can't afford to lose any more time. No point giving another excuse for Drew Tanaka and her friends (read: minions) to have a reason to be even more irritating. Like, seriously. Can't that girl give her a break?

Walt and the others has left for the school bus already, while Sadie missed it. They probably thought she's gonna get there on time. What a shock it will be for them when she arrives late (note the sarcasm).

Sadie would love to open a portal, but no, Amos just wouldn't allow her to do magic on the street where people might see it. He had told her to go to school, act like a normal kid, and don't blow her cover. Sadie wished she could, just to turn Drew into a banana slug.

Unfortunately, Sadie arrived in school at exactly the wrong time.

She couldn't turn Drew into a banana slug, since the teacher's there, and because the teacher is there, with all the vocab quizzes on her desk, that means Sadie is officially late and have missed her quiz. She'll have to endure scolding for a long time, and receive a big fat zero.

As spit spewed from her elderly English teacher's mouth, Sadie saw Walt, who's mouthing 'sorry' and looking apologetic, Carter, who's smirking a little, and Zia, who's doing a mixture of both.

Just great.

Then Sadie spotted something unusual. In fact, utterly crazy.

Nyssa and Lacy were pointing her and muttering something under their breath. Seriously? Her mates, doing something like that? Unbelievable. Sadie took her seat under the teacher's command, which is just one row away from where her mates are. Perfect for eavesdropping.

Here's what she heard during the whole class, with the price of not hearing anything the teacher said. Not that she's really regretting it, since the topic of the lesson is extremely tedious.

"... -alf blood...... camp, Chi- ..... "

"Wha-...... -nabeth..... Kane..."

Just tiny fragments that made no sense whatsoever. After that, the rest is nonsense.

"... crush...... dare..... oooh..."

"But...... like... cute..."

Which made no sense either, but Sadie could at least tell that they're talking about some kind of crushes. Since when do they care about that? Did they get infected by Drew or something?

Then just as Sadie thought her day couldn't get any worse, a humungous griffin popped out of the nearest window, snarling and screeching, and basically asking for a very slow and painful death. Naturally, as the amazingly kind person she is, Sadie wants to grant its wish.

She whipped out her staff and wand from the Duat (she had gotten better at it after some more practice), and was about to shout "Ha-di!" (there's nothing a little explosion can't fix) when her boyfriend stopped her.

Walt (or Anubis) used his power of turning-stuff-to-dust-with-the-touch-of-a-hand, and gave the griffin a quick and painless death instead. Which made Sadie very, very pissed off.

"Why didn't you let me kill it? Or at least give it some punishment first for giving me a bad day!"

"Actually, I agree with Sadie." Zia spoke up suddenly. "Though not for the same reason."

"What's the reason?" Sadie asked curiously.

"Blowing our cover, duh!" Carter replied in his know-it-all tone. "Isn't it obvious?"

"No, it's not, Captain Smarty-Pants." Sadie answered, though she is facepalming mentally at herself for being so stupid.

"Umm... Wait a second. Wha-, who... how... Ugh, my tongue isn't agreeing with my brain. Who are you people? How could you, um, do whatever you just did? That turn-stuff-to-dust thing?" Amber, a nerdy but brave girl, asked. Her strawberry blond hair is shaking a little, and her chocolate brown eyes were filled with fear, giving the impression that she is scared (which she obviously is).

"Um......" The Egyptian magicians were speechless. What do people say at this kind of situation?

"Well, we are Egyptian magicians. Let us explain it all to you......" Zia declared.

"So... Understand now?" Sadie asked, a triumphant look in her eyes. Everyone nodded. "And that means I can turn all of you people into banana slugs if I want to, so don't you dare annoy me again, is that clear to you?"

Everyone nodded again, their stiff bodies and frightened eyes betraying their thoughts.

"And now, let's go home. I'm starving. See ya later, mortals!" Sadie yelled over her shoulder as she turned to leave. "Follow me, residents of Twenty-First Nome! It's time for lunch!"
