The next day at school, Kas, Mason, Nathan and Rachelle pretty much jumped me at my locker. "Why weren't you here yesterday? Where'd you go?" Kas said. "Guys, I'm sorry. I just, had to take a day off."

"Really? Because we've only been in school for 3 days." I rolled my eyes. I really wasn't in the mood for this. "Well I'm here now so it doesn't matter," I said, trying to end the conversation. But they just had to keep it going. They followed me down the hallway saying how I shouldn't be missing school. I stopped and faced them. "Guys! Please! You're not my dad so you can't tell me what I should and shouldn't be doing." This time Nathan answered.

"So your Dad had no problem with you skipping school? Well that's a parent," he said sarcastically. I glared at him. "You don't know anything about my dad, so you just keep your mouth shut," I hissed.

"Whoa, Florence. Calm down, he was kidding," Rachelle said. "I don't care what the hell he was doing. And I'd really like to be left al-."

I took in what I was seeing in front of me. It was Logan, and his eyes were red and glossy as if he'd been crying. I ran over to him, and I could feel my friend's eyes on me. Logan wrapped his arms and me. "Logan, what happened?" He said nothing. I totally didn't see the teacher standing next to him. Mr.Varquez, my Literature teacher walked over to me.

"We have just found out that, Mr. Hunter has passed away." My mouth was wide opened. Now I realized why Logan was so upset. "We're taking Logan to the hospital to meet his foster mother. I don't know if you will come but it seems like he need you," Mr. Varquez admitted. I nodded. "Logan...? Logan, look at me," I said. He brought his eyes to mine. I placed my hand on his cheek. "It'll be alright. I'm here for you alright?" I was trying not to cry myself. Seeing him so upset was killing me. Logan didn't let go of me, and I didn't think he wanted to. I lead his out of the school into Mr.Varquez's mini-van. We reached Portland Hospital and Medical Center in about 10 minutes. During that time, I found out that Mr. Hunter died of a heart attack after Logan had left for school.

We reached the hospital and saw Ms. Hunter sitting in a chair with her hands over her eyes. "Mom," Logan said, letting go of me. Ms. Hunter looked up at her foster-son and got up and hugged him. Mr. Varquez put his hand on my shoulder. "Ms. Montgomery you need to get back to class," he said. I shook my head.

"No, I want to stay and I-." He cut me off.

"You need to get back to class. I heard about you skipping out yesterday and I don't want you to miss out on today. So, let's go. You can see Logan tomorrow." That made me angry. Logan Hunter was my boyfriend. I should be able to stay with him if I wanted to. "No, I'm going to stay. But thanks," I said. "Ms. Montgomery, I will have to inform your father about this. Are you sure?" I hesitated but then I looked back at Logan. He was really messed up. "Yes. I'm sure." Mr. Varquez gave his condolences and left. I walked over to Lagan and Ms. Hunter. Logan wiped his face and turned to me. The second he looked at me, he started crying again. "Logan I-I don't know what to say. I-." Logan stopped me. "Flor-Florence, you should be at school. Don't worry about, about me. I'll be fine," he stuttered. "No," was all I said. I wasn't leaving him, ever.

I sat down next to Ms. Hunter. I hugged her. "I'm so sorry," I said to her. "Thank you for being there for my son," she said. "I'm not strong enough to tell him that everything will be alright," she sobbed. I looked back at Logan who had taken a seat in the far corner on the floor. He sat there with his knees up to his chest.

"Why did he have to go?" Ms. Hunter cried.

At that point, my mother's face popped up into my mind and I thought the same thing.

"Yeah.... Why?"
