I sat in the middle of my bed with my legs crossed. I just stared at my walls, and the posters of my favorite band, Paramore, and my black and red chandelier that hung from my ceiling.
Someone lightly tapped my door.
"Who is it?" I said hoarsely. My voice was gone, unfortunately.
"Me," my dad said. Well wasn't that obvious, I thought to myself. Only 2 of us live here...
"Come in." I was afraid of what was going to happen next. I knew I was in trouble for skipping on school again so I immediately said sorry.
"It's alright." That was all he said. He looked dazed and distracted.
"Dad....? Are you there?" I said waving my hand in front of his face.
"Yeah, sorry. I just haven't had enough time to think about things lately," he admitted. Wasn't that the truth!
"Well, you can think now or even sleep if you want. I know how to take care of myself." He nodded. "You're right." It was silent and he still stood there hovering over me.
"Logan Hunter? You two in a relationship?" he asked out of nowhere. I couldn't lie to my dad.....at least not at this moment.
"Yeah, dad."
He didn't respond. Instead he walked out of my room repeating "Logan Hunter". What was all that about? I shrugged my shoulders and lied down. Crying makes you tired, I realized. I had the urge to drive over to Logan's house, but decided that I needed some sleep. It was only 4:30 and if I went to sleep now, I'd be up all night.
And then it hit me. I'd go over to Logan's tonight. I could easily say I was wondering how Ms. Hunter was doing. My dad wouldn't expect a thing.....
I woke up at 7:39 and quickly got dressed. I felt refreshed. I brushed out my think brown hair and ran downstairs.
"Hey Dad! I'm going to go check on Ms.Hunter. See how she's doing," I yelled. My dad stomped heavily up stairs. He wiped his hands on his baggy blue jeans.
"Hey, you mind if I go?" he asked.
"Yes....No, I mean, uh..." He raised his eyebrow.
How would I get a chance to talk to Logan with my dad hanging around? I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, Dad, sure. But I'M driving."
"So you're telling me that you've had an adult with you EVERY time you drove the car?" He had got me. I knew that I could get a ticket for driving without someone over 18 in the car, but I still did it. And my dad was nice to enough to act like it wasn't happening.
"Fine." I tossed him the keys and we left the house.
It was weird pulling up to Logan's house with my dad, at night.
We walked up to the front door. I let my dad ring the bell.
Logan answered it.
"Hi, Logan right?"
"Yeah..."
"Do you mind if we come in?" my dad asked. Logan looked at me and then at my dad and nodded. "Mom," he groaned walking into his house. "The Montgomery's are here!"
Ms. Hunter came down the stairs. "Oh sweetheart you didn't have to stop by," she smiled. "No it's fine, really." We hugged.
Then my dad said, "How are you doing?" and the 2 adults walked over to the family room, leaving Logan and I alone.
I didn't know what to say to him. He saw what had happened.
"I want to say I'm sorry Logan, but I don't think it'll help much," I finally said. He sat down on a kitchen chair. His eyes were on the TV. He was ignoring me.
"Logan...? Can you please talk to me?"
He still kept his attention on the TV.
I walked over and stood in front of the television. He looked up at me. "Do you mind?"
I put my hand on his shoulder and he brushed it off. I was truly hurt but I reminded myself that it wasn't Logan's fault....or mine for that matter. It was Nathan's, and he was going to pay for it.
"Are you coming to school tomorrow?" I asked.
"Yeah whatever."
That was all I needed to know. I was going to get Logan back. And I was going to beat Nathan at his own silly little game. Payback's a bitch.
