oOH WEE
MY FAVOURITE SUBJECT ^^^
Here to start off my tips with smthing that bothers me a lot—but shouldn't because it's technically not grammatically wrong or like... idk morally wrong? (in mY dictionary this is morally wrong uh-)
It is not necessary to bold your dialogue. Making the dialogue bold will only draw attention away from the other elements of the story. Italics and bolds are meant to emphasise things, so if EVERYTHING (a lot of things) are italics/bold, then NOTHING is emphasised.
Then again, it is just writing style and yes it is just fan fiction but... yeah making dialogue bold will merely make your story less professional than what it would be without bold.
I admit I suck and use italics as a "flashback" sort of method, but I guess I'm still within the boundaries because when I do that I am aware that everything italicized is not emphasized anymore and that what is not italicized is now emphasized.
Idk I'm confusing. Example: He is not joking.
Yes.
mAN in the end it's still up to you whether or not you want to bold your dialogue (because it may be a story centred around the speech and that is a-okAy!) but for me, personally, I click away from stories that have bolded dialogue
I just feel that there is no need?? And when I see it I get the vibe that the story is a lot more childish so I'm automatically inclined to "ehhhhhhhhh"
I'm just picky oops please bold away if that is your preferred style but uh
yeah
Okay like I've encountered some readers that ONLY read the dialogue and I guess that helps them?? But why would you want to focus everything on the characters speaking just make a dialogue book like my bae iChanbaeki instead of writing amazingly detailed paragraphs and having it all overlooked by some common fool who skims the pages and now only reads the bold cuz you helped them—
Why am I getting so salty ssdfgdhdhdj
I just figured out that I'm salty because when the dialogue is bolded I become that common fool and I skip over words that are supposed to set the scene, and instead only read the: "Chanyeol, your foot isn't supposed to go into that hole"
See like wasn't all of ur attention on the bold even before you got to reading what was before the bold and now you're really confused because context is POOF GONE and you only have a sentence that makes like zero sense
Or maybe ur a pro and you read everything because you're not impatient and dumb like me!
Moral of the story: context is everything, if everything is emphasized then nothing is emphasized, chanyeol was not supposed to put his foot into that hole, and I like getting salty
ur -10 writer is oot.
