read... to find out...
It is called a description, my dear Wattpad fanfic writers.
Readers want to know what they're going to find in this book. They aren't going to read the description just for you to tell them to read the book, and yes, maybe your title is descriptive enough that you don't need a detailed summary but you have to have SOMETHING that encapsulates (wo that's a big word) some part of your story, whether it be the climax or how it started or... yeah
I struggle a lot at making descriptions and sometimes they're one-liners, but the thing is... Before you start typing out your summary, just think of your story plot. Who are your main characters, what is the reason they met/why does this story exist? How does it end? What is the climax of this story?
After thinking about that stuff, you're all ready and set to go.
Here, lemme make a summary of a story idea I've had.
Idea: Chanyeol is a ghost who was an incredible chef when he was alive, and Baekhyun is the fake "best chef of the country" after cheating through competitions.
Now I decide what I want in my summary. If I wanted it to be mysterious, I'd be like: hon hon, who is this ghost baguette? Why is Baekhyun suddenly Monsieur Master Chef? And build off there idk man...
"Byun Baekhyun believes to have reached the peak of his life after cheating through cooking competitions and winning the title of "Best Chef in Korea", but a new—and very stubborn—ghost decides to ruin his throne of lies.
His name is Chanyeol, and he's not as scary as Baekhyun expected ghosts to be. It's kind of like he's got his own Ratatouille story now."
(because this was lowkey based off ratatouille)
Nah that's weird. First sentence was lowkey dragged out. Let's try again
"After cheating through multiple competitions and putting up a fake persona, Byun Baekhyun somehow becomes the "Best Chef in Korea". Unfortunately (or fortunately) for him, there's a ghost who's dead set on teaching him how to properly cook.
Things don't seem so bad, but Mr. Ghost, AKA Park Chanyeol, gets a little frustrated when he learns that Baekhyun can't cook a simple sunny-side-up egg."
Still weird, and HONESTLY when I write descriptions I pass through at least 5 choices before finally settling on the best one. It's tedious but hey, you want people to be interested in your story!
ALSO!
"In which Chanyeol is a master-chef ghost and Baekhyun doesn't know how to cook"
"In which Baekhyun just wants some of Chanyeol's nuts but he's actually allergic to nuts."
"In which Sehun still has not returned the almighty rod of justice and Baekhyun is still using cucumbers."
Yeah.
I find that those two words, "In which", are being used a lottt nowadays in fanfiction descriptions. I agree, it sounds hella good and aesthetic, but there are a lot of books with the same description beginning.
I'm pretty sure I have a book with "In which" too and I'm just tellin you, it's gonna get cliché and overused realllll, real quick. Pretty sure it's already kinda cringey
Also what does that even really mean? My head can't wrap around it
In which.
"In", preposition: expressing the situation of something that is or appears to be enclosed or surrounded by something else.
"Which", pronoun & determiner: used referring to something previously mentioned when introducing a clause giving further information.
You know what, it kinda makes sense now. Not really but it's just because I'm dumb
ALSO! (this is the second time i have said that)
There are at least five books on Wattpad that have a description where it's only the lyrics to a song. All of the lyrics to a song. In the description box.
Please don't do that honey
There are many creative ways to make descriptions!
More examples!
Example 1:
Chanyeol: 8====D ?
Baekhyun: h o w a b o u t n oChanyeol just wants to know what that emoji means. Baekhyun takes it the wrong way.
Example 2:
How do you know when someone is lying? To Baekhyun, it's really simple. Well, when it comes to Chanyeol; it's simple.
Chanyeol can't lie for shit, and Baekhyun knows the idiot is in love with him.

Moral of the story: descriptions are meant to give readers a taste of your book, not a spoon to eat it boy we know we need to use the spoon to eat but we don't know what we gonna eat if you blindfold us and just give us the spoon! + make a few summaries before settling on your last one, i got bored, and never trust me ever again
