"7AM, the alarm goes off; the sunshine coming through the window."
—school life; stray kids

ryewon

"rise and shine bitch!" a voice hollered loudly.

i turned around, not wanting to wake up, but someone pulled my blanket off of me.

"hEY! HAN GOWON! YOU DID NOT!" i yelled, way more awake now.

gowon stuck her tongue out, "maybe i did. maybe i didn't. who knows? not like you can do anything anyway, you lazy ass."

and then she ran away. with my darn blanket.

"oH NO YOU DIDN'T." i flipped off my bed, not even minding the tangled feeling on my head.

after 3 minutes of the wild goose chase, we stopped, panting. then i realized something.

man, we need to work out more. our bodies are weaker than an infant in coma. not that i've ever seen one.

"...hey...why are...we...running a..gain?" i asked, "aren't...we late...?"

gowon looked at her phone, "oh yeah...we're late...fuck."

———

please don't let him noticed me, i silently prayed as i sneaked to my seat at the back of the classroom. gowon is in "the chill pe class" with ms. cha, meaning she doesn't get detention when she's late. life is unfair.

mr. min, on the other hand, has eyes on the back of his head. he turned around, "and this is how you solve these type of equations. by the way, shin ryewon, detention during break."

i groaned in my head, already in a horrible mood, even though it was only the first class.

hey, at least nothing worse can happen right?

yea, bitch. you thought.

poke.

poke.

poke.

okay, who the fuck is poking me?

i turned around, only to find jeongin grinning at me.

eyes wide, i quickly took out a piece of scrap paper and scribbled.

i didn't recognize you before holy crap.

stifling a laugh, he too wrote his thoughts down.

neither did i. you were wearing glasses, remember?

oh yeah. i only wear contacts at school. but you? i didn't even know that you sit behind me.

maybe that's because your memory is shit.

our light conversation continued, until--

"YANG JEONGIN AND SHIN RYEWON. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION," mr. min barked, "DETENTION DURING LUNCH."

what the fuck. now i have two detentions in one day. how is this possible?

life is cruel, i wrote.

ikr. poor you though. double detention.

"MR. YANG. MS. SHIN. THIS IS IT. DETENTION DURING BREAK, LUNCH AND AFTER SCHOOL," he yelled oh-so-calmly like someone just kicked his ass. that wouldn't be bad, actually.

after more lectures on algebra, the bell finally rang.

"class, you are dismissed. except for you two, come over here," he signaled us to not leave the room.

walking over, i gulped. i don't want to do extra math. my brain's already dead.

"so, i've been noticing that your grades dropped, ms. shin," he started, "on the other hand, mr. yang, your math skills are practically a talent. you're gifted."

oh wow. so he called us over to roast me? how nice. that's not gonna work though, i'm really just...not the smartest human being in this world, y'know? everyone can relate. right?

"here's the deal: if you agree to tutor ms. shin, and she gets 73% or above by the end of term 2, which is in two months, then i will spare you from your detentions for today. if your situation gets out of hand, however, both of you will receive a punishment, which will be announced, only if ms. shin fails to meet the expected percentage. that is all," he turned back to his laptop, not giving a crap about us anymore.

so now he's my tutor? isn't it a nice day today? the dull sky is full of disappointment, and one more human is aware of my horrible grades.

just great.
