I'm disgusted with myself with how long this took to finish, just lost my gusto for writing I suppose. That being said, here you go lunawolf8074! Thank you for the request and I hope you love it!

Chemistry

"Crap", Colby cursed under his breath, glancing back and forth between his textbook, and the still resolutely yellow contents of his flask. The stubborn solution was supposed to have turned to inky blue, then clear, before finally cycling back to yellow. But the damn -

Colby leaned in to get a closer look at the bubbles that were forming at the bottom of the glass.

      “Ah, sh-”

      “Woah-kay.”

Suddenly Professor Jacobs was beside him, pulling him down behind the counter just as the beaker exploded, showering both men with solution and bits of broken glass.

When things calmed down, Colby chanced a meek look at his educator, “Sorry, sir.”

Prof. Jacobs just laughed and shook his head, “All in a day’s work, buddy. C’mon let’s go get cleaned up.”

Colby nodded, sighing deeply at his incompetence as he stood and, wary of the glistening shards that now littered the floor, made his way to the emergency shower - for the third time that afternoon.

“Why don’t we pick this back up during Thursday’s lab block? I have another class coming in at four and need to go get changed,” Prof. Jacobs suggested once they were cleansed of the chemicals.

The younger man nodded, looking relieved as he bade his teacher goodbye and left for his dorm.

It wasn’t a long walk from the science block to B Building, but Colby still bundled up against the wind. It was early december and whispers of winter hung in the air. It had been threatening to snow for almost a week, but thus far the menacing grey clouds had simply hung overhead, low and foreboding, but unproductive. When he arrived at his dorm, he was met with the sight of Lyle, his roommate, sitting on his bed with his computer in his lap and his earbuds in, laughing at whatever was on the screen. He must have heard the door close because he looked up and, when he saw Colby, hit the spacebar and took out the earbuds.

“Hey, man,” he greeted, taking in his friend’s clothes, “Another rough day?”

Colby nodded, taking off his jacket and stripping down. He grabbed a change of clothes, which he scrambled into, and flopped down on his own bed against the wall opposite Lyle’s, “Had a lab with Jacobs. He’s great, but chemistry just doesn’t agree with me.”

Lyle mimed gagging at the mention of science, “Man, I don’t know why you took that course.”

Colby leveled him with a deadpan stare, in response to which the other man just shrugged, “Seriously, it kicks your ass. It always has, even in high school. You could’ve chosen one of the other sciences, you know.”

Rolling his eyes, Colby nodded to his friend’s laptop, “What are you watching?”

“Deadpool,” Lyle grinned, moving over and patting the bed beside him.

      Colby sighed, “Again?”

“What do you mean ‘again’? This has to be, like, the greatest movie of all time dude!”
