Point of View: Zora
-
"Hi my little Z" my grandma called with open arms and a smile. "Hey grandma" I said back with a smile before being pulled into a hug."Lets go inside and set your stuff up in your room" my grandma told me. We walked into the one story, tan house. The inside felt like fall because of all the warm colors throughout the house.
After walking through the living room, we walked down a hall. "The first door on the right is my room. The second is my bathroom. The last door on the left is your room. Your bathroom is in your room. Lastly the door next to your room is the closet, I keep towels and such stuff in there."
I nodded and headed to my room. The room was pretty big there was a walk-in closet which had a dresser in it and the room had a queen sized bed and a vanity set up. I dropped my suitcase on the bed and walked to the bathroom.
The bathroom was pretty spacious too. The shower had glass doors and there was a tub next to it. This bedroom was so nice. I wonder why grandma isn't in this one.
I went back to the bed and unzipped my bag I placed all my things where they belong. After I finished I decided I would head out and explore what was around.
I grabbed a light jacket because it was mid September and the weather was cooling down. My grandma lived in Florida, and her house was on the beach so I went to the beach first.
The beach was gorgeous. I could sit there for hours and listen to the waves crash in. It put my mind at ease. I looked to my right and saw a little shopping center at the beach. I began to walk towards it.
There was a coffee shop and I thought it would be a good idea to get some coffee to stay warm. "Welcome! Are you a visitor? We don't get very many of those." The girl who looked about my age said.
"Well I just moved here to live with my grandmother." I told her and shot her a smile. She smiled back, "what's your name then? Mines Leanne."
"Zora, nice to meet you," I held out my hand to shake. "Same to you, and what would you like to drink?" She asked and shook my hand. "I'll take a Carmel Macchiato, please!" I told her. "Okay and I'm assuming since you look around my age that you would be going to Northwest High School?" Leanne asked.
"Yeah. How did you know?" I asked. "It's the only high school here." She said. "Well I'll be coming in as a senior." I told her. "Me too! Maybe we'll have some classes together or I can show you around. Oh and you can sit with me and my friends at lunch, they will love you." She chuckled.
"You really think they will be my friend? I don't want to make your lunch table feel awkward." I chuckled nervously. "Of course not! My friends are the friendliest and nicest people you'll ever meet, well most of them anyways." She smiled.
"Okay then, I'll sit with you." I told her honestly. I mean it's not like I had any other options, I knew nobody at this school. "Hey do you want a ride to school tomorrow? It's the first day of school." She asked. "Oh yes please, I'd probably get lost if I went alone." I chuckled and ran my hand through my long brown hair.
"It's alright. I'll help you, that's what friends are for. Meet me here tomorrow at 8 school starts at 9." She laughed and handed me my coffee. I smiled "Thanks. I'll see you then." I said before grabbing my coffee and leaving. "See you later." She smiled and waved. I smiled back and leaned to open the door but instead of my body meeting the door I began to fall to the ground.
I fell right on my butt but luckily I saved the coffee. Some boy held the the door open. He looked at me and laughed. Rude. "Hey that's not nice Kameron" I heard Leanne say.
She came over and helped me up. "Sorry about him, he a bit of a goof." Leanne told me. "It's okay, I'm all good." I told her and waved before walking off.
Now as I'm walking back I thought about that boy. He was gorgeous even though he laughed at me. His messy black hair, his hazel eyes, and his perfect teeth made him so handsome.
After walking away I went back home. The sun was starting to go down so I thought it was best to head back. Once I got back I smelt food cooking. "I hope you like shrimp alfredo, Z." I heard my grandma say. "Of course I do, grandma" I told her walking to the kitchen.
I set the table and we ate shortly after. "I hope you like it here and I hope you aren't too nervous about starting at a new school." My grandma rubbed my shoulder.
To be honest, my life before wasn't too great. I didn't really have very many friends so I guess that's why I didn't have that much of a problem leaving. "I'll be fine," I smiled at her. She smiled back and kissed my forehead.
"Now, honey, you need to get some rest. You have a big day tomorrow." She told me. I nodded and headed for my room. I gotten all ready for bed and laid my head down on the pillow and pulled the soft blanket over my body.
I tossed and turned and wondered what tomorrow would be like. I feared of what happened back at home would happen here. Or maybe it will be completely different, oh I really hope it is different.
After a few hours of tossing around, I finally drifted to sleep.
