"Cause you got the soul and you know how to use it, put your hand on my hip cause you know that I'll lose it! You got my heart racin' like there's nothing to it! Fallin' in love to the beat of the music! Fallin' in love to the beat of the music!"
I jolted awake as Brett Eldredge's voice reached my ears. Opening my eyes, I realized I wasn't alone and in fact, I was completely on top of Matt, who was shirtless. All of these little changes that I was beginning to notice, like the slight scruff on his face, the more defined muscles, especially the very nice abdominals, and the more calloused hands, have reminded me that my brothers and their 'annoying' friend that has been around since day one, were no longer just boys, or teenagers. They were, well, men. Men that have been through enough experiences to be last a lifetime.
"Cause you got the soul an-"
"Hello?" I managed to grumble through my phone's speaker as I tried to escape from the iron grip of a Marine.
"So are you going to tell me why you decided to ditch last night's very important benefit dinner right now, or should I just wait and hope that you'll wake up at some point and answer me for a few more hours, maybe even days." A very pissed-off voice loudly answered me back. Shit! I forgot about Anna and Mary!
"Hey Anna, listen I'm really sorry about ditching last night. It's just that, something came up that I need to take care of immediately. I'll stop by the studio at some point and we'll talk then but right now is just not a good time." I spit out my pre-thought explanation of why I left last night out before Anna could interrupt and object. I hung up right after I finished saying what had to be said and threw my phone into the pile of clothes in the corner of Matt's room.
"Well they weren't very happy with you, were they now babe?" I jumped at the sound of an awake Matty, which isn't really surprising seeing as I was continuously trying to get out of his grip though out the phone call.
"Just a fed up bitch who needs a swift kick to the groin, repeatedly," I replied nonchalantly, forgetting who I was talking to. When my dance friends and I hang out, it's just natural to say things like that about Anna, but with Matt, I guess it was a different story.
You would think that growing up around a bunch of Marines and firefighters that I would be violent and curse all the time as a child but thanks to Joe, I grew up to be a pretty respectable young woman, or as Joe writes in his letters all of the time. But when you get down past the basics, a guy could only do so much. That's where Katie came in. She was Joe's amazing girlfriend since their sophomore year of high school and taught me everything from makeup and clothes, to bras and tampons, and much to my brothers' protests, boys.
But back to the part about cursing. Judging by the look on his face Matt must have not been expecting that reply. And after staring at his wide-eyed stare for a few more seconds, I busted out laughing.
"So while you try and process what I said, I'm going to go take a shower," I stated like I was speaking to a toddler "and I suggest you do as well."
I finally got out of bed and I began to walk towards the pile of clothes to grab my phone. With my back turned to the bed, I leaned forward a little and reached out to grab it. When I stood up straight again, I felt arms go around my waist and a soft breath fanned across the side of my face.
"Were you just suggesting that we take a shower, babe?" Matt whispered in my ear. I hadn't even heard him get up.
"Wh-what? Of course not you loser" I replied, to shocked by what he just said.
"Well then maybe you should stop trying to tell me what to do, love" he teased be and playfully tapped my butt as I started to leave the room. "Oh, and by the way, dance has been doing your butt well," he added and winked at me.
I practically ran to my room and started up the shower before he could see the deep blush on my face. I still heard his slight laughing down the hall as I got into the shower.
