Quest to find the Tree

When I got home this time I didn't even bother to see whether mother was home or not. Because honestly, what do I care. It was now four, two hours had passed and I didn't even realise it.

The image of the carving was still on my mind, I wanted to know more about it, why did it look just like my medallion, what did it have to do with me, my father?

I wanted to go back, but this time not alone.

I knew where Oliver was, he was at the bridge , where he always was. I quickly had a bath and changed my clothes. But before I left home, I went to the study to retrieve my father's journal, which I had found while going through his old belongings a few years ago. It was in a secret compartment inside the desk drawer.

I removed everthing from inside the drawer and placed my hand to the back of it, I was looking for a thin strap, when I found it, I pulled on it, revealing a compartment to the front. I saw it, it was covered in a thick layer dust, its genuine leather straps faded, It hadn't been touched in years.

I unwrapped the straps and opened it, I stared at it while gently flipping through the delicate pages.

I was somewhat hoping to find something useful in it, you see, I wanted answers, and keeping everything to myself wasn't going to get me any, I was now sure about my decision to tell Oliver.

I left home and quickly made my way along the dirt road that led to the bridge, but everyone knew, if you were going to take the road it had to be by carriage, it takes literally forever when walking.

So I took the shortcut, it was a narrow trail, alongside a stream, that lead to the lake. While walking, my mind drifted away, i could now hear the stream flowing, the birds singing, there was even a calm whistling in the wind, it was all just so peaceful. Then Gabe came to mind, I still didn't understand why he was so upset earlier, was it something I said, was it Maddi, or Oliver. Maybe there was something wrong at home, I wish he would just tell me.

In no time I arrived at the Bridge, but instead of seeing Oliver whom I expected to be here, I saw Gabe. Considering he didn't notice my presence, I wasn't sure about whether I should approach him or not.
He seemed relaxed, and honestly I didn't want a replay of this morning.

After a few minutes I decided to go talk to him. When he heard my approaching footsteps he turned around, His face showed how suprised he was to see me. He was sitting, his body propped up against a tree, he rose to come meet me. He hugged me tightly, while saying,

" Kate...I really am sorry about what happened, I didn't mean to hurt you, it's just that I have been dealing with alot lately, its not that important though."

I buried my face in his chest, I felt his warmth on my skin. I indulged myself in him. A moment later I softly replied,

" I was hurt by the way you acted, but Gabe, if there is something bothering you, just know that you can talk to me. "

His reply was, "Kate im fine."

He saw the disappointment on face.

He assured," Don't worry...if there is anything of importance, I promise that you will be the first to know".

He gave me a reassuring smile and passed his hand along my shoulder.
I had almost forgotten all about the the grandfather tree, and since I hadn't seen Oliver, I decided that I would tell Gabe, for now, atleast until I find Oliver.

"Gabe?"

In a questioning tone," Yeah?"was his response.

I asked while removing the madallion from inside my clothes," How much do you know about this medallion?"

He looked at it for some time and then said, " Im not sure, it seems so familiar, I've seen this before."

I questioned, " You have?"

"Yes but I am not sure where."

*I explained what I saw in the woods, my dad's letter and what I know about the medallion*

"Wow!" He exclaimed.

"Soo...will you come with me?"

"Sure, but maybe we should ask Oliver and Maddi to accompany us."

I stated, " actually, speaking of Oliver, I was looking for him when I found you. You wouldn't happen to know where can find?"

He placed his left hand beneath his chin, as his other hand was wrapped around me.

He said, " Well... we could check the Orphanage, Maddison might be be there, and there is a very good chance that Oliver may be there too."

" Ok, well I guess we better be on our way then."

He nodded. We both picked ourselves up and went toward the trail I used earlier.

Until next time
