"You need to leave" she said ushering me to the door.

"So your not going to tell me the answer. Which happened to be the whole point of the test" I asked.

"The results where inconclusive" she whispered quickly "There was no answer you belong in more then one fraction. You're divergent."

"Okay I think I heard my Father talking about divergents before" I replied.

"You can't tell any one not even your family!" she said once more urgently.

"Okay. I wasn't planning on telling them anything any way" I shrugged.

"Go now" she shoved me out of the room.

I left the school and grabbed the bus home. Caleb was still in there but I had to make dinner so it wasn't unusual for me to leave early.

Once I was home I started to prepare the bland meal and ate some myself before setting three plates.

As i said before i wasn't allowed to eat with the family.

I went up to my room. They wouldn't beat me today not when there was a public appearance coming up.

God i cannot wait. I'm so close to freedom i can almost taste it.

I am going to chose dauntless because that is the only fraction that will teach me to defend myself just in case they come back.

But i will miss Caleb though, he was always so kind to me.

I jumped on what I called a bed. I slowly drifted off to sleep.

                                                                            ***

"Beatrice" my father yelled up the stairs. "Its time to leave bitch."

I ran down the stairs.

"You had better pick wisely" my mother hissed.

"I will" I whispered looking down.

"Good" she smiled triumphantly "I'm glad we understand each other"

"Lets go" my father said.

Caleb had left early to help set out chairs. selfless till the end.

We took the bus and they didn't talk to me again. That was a blessing in itself. I was still moving stiffly from the cut in my side.

When we arrived my parents both told me to not talk and smile.

I noticed the head of the erudite walking toward us "This must be your daughter?" she questioned.

"Yes and my son is over there" my mother replied swiftly. I could see that my mother didn't like her.

"Beatrice why don't you go over to Caleb" father ordered.

"Of course" I said obediently.

Moving toward Caleb, who had already sat down in the abnegation section.

Our parents joined us as the ceremony began.

It started with the head of the city Marcus talking about adulthood ...blah blah blah... the right choice and fraction before blood.

Finally they started to call out names.

The first person was a candor who changed to amity and I didn't miss the wails and sobs from his mother.

Soon what seemed like an eternity they called out 'Caleb Prior'

He walked up and cut his hand... but that wasn't what surprised me,what surprised me was when he hovered his hand over the eriodite bowl instead of abnegation.

He was leaving abnigation... for our rivals.

I couldn't holdback my smile as my parents faces displayed their shock.

"Beatrice Prior" my name broke my train of thought as I stood.

I arrived at the table and quickly cut my hand. pausing I looked at all my options before slowly holding my hand over dauntless and watching the blood sizzle when it landed on the coals.

I walked to the dauntless ignoring the cheers grinning at my parents.

My 'fathers' eyes were murderous.

Soon the ceremony ended and the dauntless ran out onto the street.

I grinned following them. I was finally free. A laugh escaped me as I yelled "hell yeah."

The dauntless started scaling a wall to get to the tracks.

I climbed up effortlessly even passing some other dauntless born. Climbing out of your bedroom window on a daily basses means you can develop you climbing skills a lot.

...really you should try it.

I reached the top third and stood with them waiting for the train.

Slowly the others joined us until the thin platform was packed.

The train rushed toward us and they all started running. Oh shit we are gonna have to jump on a moving train.

"Well I'm all for trying new things... even if they are delusionally insane" I muttered.

"You can say that again" the girl beside me said. She was short and dressed in candor cloths. She had coffee colour skin with brown eyes and hair. She was relatively plain, not ugly nor very pretty.

We started running and I grabbed on to the train.

I noticed as I pulled my self in that the girl wasn't going to make it so I grabbed her arm and dragged her in the train.

"Thanks" she panted. I smiled at her amused as she sat down.

"What" she panted seeing my expression. "If I sit down there is less chance of falling off."

I lagged joining her in the floor

"What's your name candor" I asked her.

"Christy yours, stiff?" she asked.

"Tris" I answered deciding to leave my old name behind along with my old life.

"Oh no. As if jumping on wasn't bad enough. Now they want us to jump of the fucking thing" Christy muttered.

And sure enough we did have to jump of the train.

I stood at the back off the train and ran to the edge Christy behind me.

I leapt loving the freeness of hanging on the air before landing and rolling to my feet.

"I could so get used to this" I laughed.

"Speak for you self" Christy scowled brushing herself of.

"All right listen up" yelled a dude with loads of piercings that I guess were supposed to look badass and scary but personally I just thought it maybe him look like a twat. "My name is Eric. I'm one of the leaders to initiate you have to jump so first jumper come forward please"

No one moved and we stood their for about 2 minutes.

"Oh for fucks sake I'll do it." I sighed exasperated "bunch of wimps" I scowled.

"Come on up stiff" Eric smirked.

"Don't mind if I do" I grinned startling him.
