The full moon's ethereal beams were uninterrupted on their path to Charleston, South Carolina. There wasn't a cloud in sight, allowing the silvery tendrils to pass, making the grass seemingly glow in Sang Sorenson's backyard.

Just beyond the glowing greens, however, was darkness. The silhouettes of trees blended with one another, melding to create an impenetrable wall, shielding the dirt path from view.

If it weren't for the darkness, the soft, fresh imprints of shoes might be visible. Leaves whispered in an invisible breeze, covering up the soft exhale one might have heard if they were around. No one would have known Sang was even there.

She had the power to run, to leave her horrible life behind, and if it weren't for her mother she might have. Her mother was ill, though, and depended on Sang for most everything- even if she hated her.

It was only for that reason that Sang stepped forward, emerging from the woods. She took slow measured steps across the moonlit yard, her nails biting into her palms as she reached the back door, fists clenched tightly at her side, shoulders tensed. Why did she keep coming back?

Despite her fear, she reached a careful hand forward, resting her fingers lightly atop the doorknob. Taking a shaky breath, she opened the door stepped inside.

If only someone had been there to witness Sang, the invisible girl, to watch the tendrils of moonlight paint her skin. Maybe they would have seen the haunted, broken look in her eyes, and given her the happy ending she so badly craved.

Or maybe they'd have seen the shimmer of magic in her blood and treated her like the monster her family was convinced she was.
