Part Five: The Child Is Lost

~Child Loki's P.O.V.~

"You insulent boy, how can you expect to be a King if you can't even act like a proper Asguardian?!" I looked upon the All-Father with hatred. I was only trying to help Mother with some work and I broke a vase. Odin had beaten me for it and was now telling me I was worthless in a million different ways. "Father, I know I am not Asguardian! You and mother know it too! So what's the point?" His heavy fist came down upon my skull like a brick. I was nearly knocked unconscious by the blow and I could feel blood dripping down my forehead. "YOU WILL NOT SPEAK THAT WAY TO ME AGAIN, BOY!" I whimpered in fear now. "Dahlia...I need you." Dahlia was my maid that was like an older sister to me. She always thought of me as a sweet, innocent child, which made me feel loved and wanted. Alas, she was dead now because of Father's carelessness.

~Flashback~

Odin walked quickly down a corridor on his way to the Rainbow Bridge. Heimdall had sent word to him that a Frost Giant invasion was at hand. However, Loki's nursemaid came around the corner just then and stopped him. "My King, I must ask you to allow me to move Prince Loki from the palace!" Odin was taken aback by this request and looked at her as if she were crazy. "Let me take him to my village until this all passes. Should the Frost Giants find out that he is with us and take him....I could never forgive myself!" Odin shook his head. "Loki is the reason they have come. If they wish to take him, they may have him. If it means maintaining the peace, the sacrifice must be made." Hot tears of betrayal burned in Dahlia's eyes. "No...I shall not allow this!" She ran back to Loki's chambers and Odin concerned himself with her no more.

*At the Rainbow Bridge*

"Odin! Give us Loki or Asguard shall burn!" Odin bowed his head. He felt the bitter sting of guilt for what he was going to do but, now was not the time for that. "Heimdall, send a guard to fetch-" "Father, I have come. I will go with Laufey of my own accord." Loki walked onto the bridge and looked into Odin's eyes. "I knew of your intentions already." Something was off, something was definitely off. The king did not see Loki when he looked into the boy's eyes. As he walked away a sudden realization hit him that made his heart shatter. Dahlia had taken on the form of the boy and took his place. "Coward! Willing to do anything to appease those who oppose you." Laufey spat as his underlings drug Dahlia away.

Father continued to belittle me and I finally just got sick of it. I stood up and balled my tiny hands into fists. "ENOUGH!" I screamed in rage. "I refuse to be bullied by you any longer!" I suddenly summoned a spear made of ice out of thin air. While I was still in awe of what I had created, he grabbed me and threw me through the door to my Mother's chambers. I heard Mother scream and Thor suddenly came to my side. "Brother! Are you-" I put my hand around his throat. Even through my reddened vision, I could tell my hand was ice blue! I stood with Thor still in my grasp, crystals forming around my hand. They were suffocating him but I didn't care. "Loki! Loki stop!" My mother cried. She ran for me as I summoned an ice dagger. As she got closer, I saw Dahlia's face. Her eyes pleaded with me to stop this rampage but, it was too late. I let go of Thor, spun around to my Mother, and stabbed her in the stomach. "Do you see what you've done to me? You've brought out a monster!"

"Loki....leave now." I took on my Asguardian form and realized what I had done. "M-mother? Thor? I'm sorry Father, I-I didn't know what came over me-" "LEAVE NOW! You said it yourself, I brought out a monster! Therefore, that is what you shall always be to me and all of Asguard!" Without another word I ran to Heimdall. He was under the impression that I was dead so I had to make a split second decision. "Dahlia, what are you doing here?!" "Frigga and Thor are injured! The All-Father wanted you to send me away from here!" He looked bewildered for a moment, as if to say, 'Why hadn't I seen that?' "Where do you wish to go, child?" "Anywhere. Just please hurry!" He opened the portal and I ran in, not caring where it took me. Heimdall had called me 'child'. It reminded me of Dahlia.

* 'I will always love you, Loki. Just promise you will continue to be the sweet child you are now.' *

Those were the last words she spoke to me before she sacrificed herself. Unfortunately, I was far from a 'sweet child' now. "I'm sorry Dahlia. I've broken my promise. That child is lost. I am a new being."
