Ember looked at the note for at least 5 minutes until her ringtone snapped her out of her trance.
"Hello?" She spoke into the phone.
"Ember it's me Danny," the voice replied.
Ember sighed in relief, "Hey what's up."
"Did you get a message?" Danny asked. "I did."
"What did it say?" She asked.
It was silent for a minute, all she heard was Danny taking a deep breath. "Marco are you ready to play?"
"I got something that said the same thing, but it said my name, " Ember bit her lip. "Could this mean that we'll be partners in tonight's game?"
"Maybe...Marco polo?" Danny asked.
"Look I'll meet up with you and everyone else later, I'm gonna go see Kerri. See how she's doing, " Ember sighed before hanging up.
She sat on the edge of the bed before getting and heading to the school.
While Ember drove she called Kerri's phone but it went straight to voicemail, maybe she was doing track? She thought trying not to fear the worst.
"Kerri answer the phone" she bit her lip as she continued to drive.
Moments later Ember made it to the college and ran to track field, it took awhile to spot her but she saw Kerri sitting on the bleachers by herself.
"Kerri!" She called walking up to her.
Kerri immediately rolled her eyes,"What is it Em?"
"I needed to make sure you were okay, you weren't answering my calls."
"Yeah, I was ignoring them," Kerri started texting on her phone. She was over this whole "game", she thought that Ember was the reason this was happening.
Anyone close to her was bound to get killed in one of these sick games.
"Kerri we need to stick -"
"No Ember!" Kerri glared. "You're sick if you think we HAVE to play any of these games."
Ember was lost at words, of course she knew she didn't have to play...but it was the only way to find out who the unknown number was.
"Kerri -"
"I have a class in a few minutes, " She stood up from her seat and left.
Ember was left feeling slightly angry, she didn't know what to do. Kerri was being unnecessary and irrational, but she'd come around.
She left the campus walking to her car.
Later in the day Aaron, Danny, and Richie met Ember at her apartment.
"Did you get a text today?" Aaron glanced at everyone around the room.
"Danny and I got a text kind of relating to the game Marco polo, " Ember told him.
"We think that's the game that we'll have to play tonight, " Danny finished.
"The game would probably take place in water, "Aaron explained. "That's where that game usually takes place. "
Ember and Danny nodded not saying another word.
"Where's Kerri?" Richie broke the silence.
Everyone in the room looked towards him, "Last time I saw her she was going to class, she has a long day, " Ember said.
Richie raised an eyebrow, "Interesting."
"Seriously dude, Kerri?" Danny sighed, Richie kept blaming everyone that could move. It was annoying to him, but suspicious to Aaron.
