Chapter 1
I trotted over to the center of the meadow. It was so peaceful... I rolled onto my back and looked up at the sky. This was a perfect day! The clouds looked soft, and I had an odd urge to somehow get on a cloud and sleep on one.
Suddenly, I heard movement from about half a mile away. I quickly turned back into my human form, put on an over sized shirt I carried in my mouth, and lay back on the soft grass.
A guy, about the age of 24, came into the meadow, looking around. I don't think he spotted me, because he kept walking towards the middle of the clearing, to where I was. As he neared me, I stood up and stretched.
"What the fuck are you doing in my meadow?!" the guy asked.
"I think this meadow doesn't belong to you," I said, smirking.
"Get out, now!" the guy yelled in my face.
"Eat a Tic Tac, your breath stinks," I said, even though his breath smelled unbelievably amazing.
"Please get away," He begged.
"Why?" I teased.
"I need to talk to my girlfriend, who's coming in a while!" he answered.
My heart dropped, for some reason.
"Ok, then. Talk to you some other time," I said and smiled slightly.
I walked away slowly, into the thicket of the woods. My wolf whimpered to me.
( This - - means that Ellen's wolf is talking to her.)
-Don't worry. You still have a mate to find, anyways.-
"I've waited almost a hundred years..." I mumbled to my wolf.
-If you let me out more, then I could look and more people, and find your mate, stupid.-
"Why do I have to change into my wolf to find a mate anyways?" I growled back.
-How should I know?? It probably means I'm better then you.-
"Shut up. No more talking," I said.
-La la! I'm talking! You can't stop me!-
"You're so fucking annoying!" I snarled.
-Thank you~- My wolf sang.
I grumbled and stomped back home.
When I got home, there was not the house I expected to come back to.
In its place, there was a huge fire building, and smoke rose to the blue sky. I sniffed around, and stopped in shock. My parents and baby sister, Andi, were still in there!
I ran as fast as I could, trying to get to my front door, but if was blocked off by a barricade of police officers and firemen. I tried to shove past them, but they gave me a look that said "If you get past me I'll shoot you."
I had no choice but to change into my wolf and run inside. I quickly sprinted over to my neighbor's backyard with tears in my eyes. My stubborn wolf howled in determination and jumped over the "caution" line.
Someone screamed, "A wolf! What's a wolf doing here?!"
Another guy screamed, "It's not a wolf! It's a big dog!"
Wow. Those people were really stupid. I was a werewolf.
I ran to the front door and broke it down, using my wide, furry shoulders, and flinched at the sudden wave of heat it brought. It was for my family. I ran inside, and the only thing I heard was the sound of my sister crying.
I swiftly followed the noise, and to my disappointment, she was behind a burning piece of wood. I cautiously stepped a few paces back, and jumped as high as I could, successfully reaching the other side.
I grabbed the collar of Andi's shirt and ran to our back door. I couldn't find a trace of my parent's scent. They must have been burned already...
I pushed all my sorrowful thoughts out of my head. What's important is that we save Andi.
I couldn't breathe, but I knew I had to keep going, at least to save Andi. I reached the back door, and opened the doorknob with my teeth. I carried Andi out, and collapsed on the ground.
"Thank you for saving me, Ellen," Andi tried to say.
I couldn't talk back. Smoke was filling my lungs.
I still needed to take Andi to the front yard, to let the doctors help her. I wearily raised my head, to see that Andi's breaths were coming out in short, ragged gasps.
I used my last burst of energy to carry Andi to the front. I dropped her, where everyone could see her, and fell on my side.
"That animal saved the little girl!" Someone said.
"Call the little girl's family! I heard she has a sister!"
"Get the dog some help too!"
I couldn't breathe, though I liked all the nice comments I was getting.
I could feel my vision getting blurry. I couldn't pass out now! If I did I would turn back into a human, and people would know about me!
With my luck, things wouldn't go my way.
I blacked out.
