"If you can sing like that at a Campfire Jam, imagine how you'll be at the end of the summer. At Final Jam!" Caitlyn says to me when she releases me from her tight hug.

"Me? You're producing skills are amazing! I can't believe how well you made the music." We laugh together and join our friends in the crowd.

I turn to my right to see Tess' face full of jealousy and anger, and I know exactly why. She hates competition. She just can't accept that other people can be good too, that some people are allowed to be in the spotlight. I also see Shane lurking in the corners, probably too embarrassed to be seen at such an event.

At the end of the night we stay to watch and cheer on some of our camp mates in their performances. There weren't that many, which I found was because they were focussing on the Final Jam performance. That was something I needed to think about as well.

This means I need to write a brand new song. And it has to be one of the best songs I've ever written. Because I desperately need this opportunity to sing with Shane Gray. It would help me be who I always wanted to be - a famous singer.

I couldn't help but think about it. My song being on the radio for everyone to hear, being recognised on the street by adoring fans, maybe - just maybe, releasing my own album.

At the end of the night, all the girls head towards Lola's cabin - and we talk all night about camp.

-✼-

I start heading towards the kitchen after lunch, but I walk past the lake to see Mitchie talking to Shane Gray. It was definitely Mitchie, I could recognise that guitar case she was holding in her hand.

I sneak closer to hear their conversation, but I only get the end of it. "-I know one girl that would buy that song," she smiles as she walks towards my direction.

"Mitchie? What were you talking to Shane about?" There was no point in me pretending not to spy on them. First off, I'm in plain sight, and second, I really want to know what was going on.

"It was just small talk - nothing important," she says with an embarrassed smile.

"And he wasn't a complete jerk?" I say. "From what I've seen on TV..."

"It's not like that - he's not like that. I think he's just misunderstood." She sounded a bit defensive, but I wasn't going to comment on it. Our relationship is already dwindling, considering her relationship with the dark side. Also known as a blonde named Tess.

"You not in he kitchen this morning?" I ask, usually she would already be there, I'm surprised. Due to the fact that her mom is always on her about being there early to help her out.

"Oh yeah. I forgot to tell you. Mom said we can have today off," she smiles. "She wants us to work on our performances for Final Jam."

This was why I loved Connie, always thinking of everyone else before herself. Her daughter however, was a different story.

I'm still mad at her about yesterday. She honestly had absolutely nothing to say to defend me. Not one thing.

"Tell her I said thanks," I say before I make my way back to the cabin.

"Back so soon?" I jump at the door when I see Caitlyn. She wasn't supposed to be here - she said that she would be with the guys.

"Yeah, I-I thought I could cancel my plans today. I haven't been able spend much time with you guys." I wasn't lying, I haven't been able to spend time with everyone since we went jet skiing a few days ago. Although, that wasn't the reason I was back early.
