THIS WAS FINE, he thought. Everything was fine.

Mrs. Joseph watched Josh from her spot next to the front door, a camera in her hand and a knowing smile on her face when he wiped the sweat off of his hands on his black dress pants.

Josh stood nervously at the bottom of Tyler's staircase, his hands sweaty and fidgeting at his sides. His suit itched, and his shoes were too big, and his mom just had to straighten his hair, and his dress pants were too tight and—Oh, God, here he comes.

The sound of footsteps descending the stairs hit Josh's ears, and he was suddenly suffocating because, holy shit, this was about to happen.

Josh had to force himself to keep breathing because Tyler was about to come down the stairs, and he was going to die; Josh was going to be fucking destroyed by the beauty he was about to witness. Oh, fuck. Fuck, fuck, fu—oh, it's just Jenna.

"Jenna!" Josh hissed, practically gasping for breath. She looked at him with wide eyes from halfway down the stairs. Her hair was up in a high ponytail, and she wore a sparkling sky-blue dress that reached her ankles. She suddenly smirked at his flustered expression.

"Y'look like y'just ran a marathon," she snickered, flipping her ponytail and making her way down the rest of the steps. Her heels clicked behind her when she walked up to Josh and patted him on the shoulder.

"Chin up. It's only junior prom; next year is the one that matters."

"Thanks for the vote of confidence," Josh huffed, wiping his brow. "Why is it so hot in here?"

"It's not; you're just sweatin' like a pig," she sniggered, making him glare at her. "It's Tyler, a'course I'm nervous."

"Well, stop it. It's just like goin' somewhere normal with Ty, 'cept, like, y'all are all dolled up. He's still gettin' ready anyway; Ryan's helpin' him."

This was normal, right? Best-friends could take each other to prom without it being weird, couldn't they?

Little did he know, Tyler was upstairs worrying about the exact same thing.

"S'not... weird that bear and I are goin' t'prom t'gether, right?"

Ryan looked up from where he sat, legs crossed, on Tyler's bed. "No," he answered, before looking back to his phone. For any pair other than you, it probably would be, but you two are basically dating already, he thought.

He didn't say that.

"And... and y'don't think bear'll... bear'll be mad that I'm not... y'know... wearin' a skirt or dress or somethin'?"

Ryan was surprised by that question, looking up again. "A'course not," he reassured. And if he is, I'll kick his ass.

He didn't say that either.

"And you're sure y'don't wanna come? It'll be fun!"

Ryan sighed, shaking his head. "I'm sure. I'd rather not be y'all's third wheel anyway." And if Brendon's not going, what's the point?
