When Emily woke up the next morning, she found that they were already on the road. Emily was in the passenger seat with her coat draped around her while Bruce was sitting in the driver's seat with a content smile on his face as the soft hum of country music came from the radio.
Emily let out a yawn and Bruce looked over at her with a smile. He reached his hand out and placed it on her leg before rubbing a thumb across her leg softly. "Morning, Sleeping Beauty," Bruce greeted making Emily chuckle softly.
"Come on, Bruce. You've seen me sleep before and we both know that when I'm asleep, I'm definitely no beauty," Emily told him. Bruce chuckled softly before just smiling at her. "You're always a beauty to me, Em. Drooling and all," Bruce teased her making her blush and lightly smack his hand away.
Bruce let out a loud laugh that made Emily smile widely. She hadn't heard him laugh like that since before the accident.
Emily continued to smile at him, but it quickly disappeared once she saw the joy leave his face as he came to a stop under a bridge. Cars were honking everywhere and it seemed like the cars in front of them weren't moving at all.
Emily looked at Bruce worriedly as he got out and looked to see what was in front of him. She saw him gulp slightly before he got back into the car.
"We got to go," Bruce said as he looked at her. Emily gave him a confused look. "Walk towards the back, just don't walk too fast," Bruce told her.
Emily nodded and got out of the truck before walking back past the truck and over to Bruce. He took her hand in his and the two walked past the road and got onto the sidewalk that was along the side of the bridge. Bruce squeezed her hand in comfort as they walked past the bridge and made it to the other side.
They ended up not being able to get that truck back and had to go an find a boat to help them get the rest of the way to New York City where they were going to meet someone that Bruce called Mr. Blue.
A man was nice enough to help them get to New York before they had to try and find another mode of transportation. "Subway's probably quickest," Emily told Bruce as she stared at a big map of New York.
Bruce gave her a look. "Me. . . in a metal tube. . . deep underground with hundreds of people in one of the most aggressive city in the world?" Bruce asked. Emily sighed, "Well when you say it like that, it just sounds stupid."
Bruce chuckled softly and kissed her forehead before saying, "Let's just get a cab." "Right," Emily muttered.
It didn't take long for them to find a cab and when they did, Emily immediately wished they hadn't. The Subway sounded like a dream compared to the cab ride they ended up experiencing.
Emily's eyes were wide as the guy driving their cab drove crazily down the road. "Come on, you drive like a woman!" The cab driver yelled making Emily scoff at him. The cab driver took a sharp turn and the two were thrown to one side of the cab. He then straightened them out and they were thrown to the other side.
Cars were honking at them everywhere they went and Emily quickly grabbed onto Bruce's arm in fright as the guy turned back to look at them and took his eyes off the road. The man said something incoherent before turning back around as Emily whispered, "Oh my god. We're going to die."
Bruce was breathing like crazy and Emily was just waiting for his watch to start beeping. Luckily, the cab pulled over and came to a stop. The two quickly got out of the car almost crying with relief at the sight of the ground. "We're alive," Emily muttered before kissing her hand and holding it up towards the sky.
